“A year ago, if you told me that I would wear my baby everyday, I would ask how I’d get anything done?! But without baby wearing, I would truly never accomplish anything! I wear Olympia while cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, during Zoom calls, and like today, on early morning coffee adventures. Anytime she needs my attention but I feel pulled in a different direction, I just strap her on! With the help of and , I found the Gemini that distributes Oly’s weight perfectly and it makes all the difference to my back and shoulders at the end of the day! I love keeping Oly kissably close and she never naps better than on me. “ ♥️

Babywearing 101: A 2-hour virtual class for expectant and new families
Meet David, a new Dad and recent grad of my Babywearing 101 class. He shares:
“We love babywearing in our house: for naps, for outings, for cuddles, for chores, for when nothing else is working and the fussing won't stop. And we can't imagine navigating babywearing without our time with Adriane — we know the basics as well as ‘fun’ techniques, and we now know the different carriers, the carries we like most, and when we like to use them. Babywearing 101 class with Adriane was so much FUN. We learned a ton, that we now take with us EVERY DAY of parenting. And it sure makes our baby happy too."
Babywearing changes your life. I can personally attest to this, as a parent myself. Babywearing was the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT skill I learned as a new mom. It made everything about keeping small humans alive less stressful and more enjoyable.
But don’t take it from me! Listen to the people who are not experts, the people who are just trying to survive parenthood right now, the families who are in the thick of it.

This is an initiative by and myself, but it also encompasses the voices of many Indigenous and Black siblings and of white allies and accomplices who share the same concerns.

This petition is about bringing justice to the ways in which the Rebozo Mexicano has been heavily appropriated, misused and commercialized in White spaces by White birth workers. If you feel called to support, join us!!

We have huge gratitude for Samantha Harris who assisted in revision & editing and for Samantha Verdugo who is working on the Spanish translation.

SLEEP Q&A - I’m so excited to be hosting an instagram live on All Things Gentle Sleep with Jen Varela of , a Certified Gentle Sleep Coach and trusted sleep resource and friend of mine. 🥰
Join us this Thursday March 4th at 9a PST/12P EST!
When it comes to babywearing, the topic of sleep ALWAYS comes up. “Should I use my carrier for naps, am I creating bad sleep habits, what’s ‘not enough’ or ‘too much’ sleep?”
It’s rare that I get a chance to pick the brain of an actual sleep consultant in real time, so come meet Jen as she shares with us:
- what her own experience was like as a babywearing mother (can’t wait for this part!)

- the connection between sleep deprivation and mental health

- what it means to “follow your baby’s lead” when it comes to sleep, and how you can make sure you’re reading your babies cues properly.

Jen Varela is a Certified Gentle Sleep Coach®, co-author of “Loved to Sleep,” founder of pediatric sleep consulting service Sugar Night Night, and liaison for the California chapter of Postpartum Support International (PSI). In the past 10 years, she has helped more than 4,000 sleep-deprived families through workshops and phone consultations, and more than 800+ families have taken advantage of her private coaching services. Jen offers one-on-one sleep coaching services for children ages 4 ½ months to 5 years, education and sleep shaping information for parents with infants under 4 ½ months, and workshops for parents of children ages 0-5 months, 6-13 months, and toddlers.

This has been an exhausting 2 weeks in the Babywearing world.
Many of you already know what’s been happening with . The entire back story (and my take on each piece) is too much to share here in one post. I’m gonna spend my next hours and days filling in the details in my stories and make a highlight for the curious 👀
But Dear White Babywearers...Before you rush through this post for the dirt or pop over to Solly to see what mess is all about, please hear me out. This is NOT a gossip session. Besides, I’ve already done, been doing that, for WAY too many hours this week offline in an appropriate space with my babywearing peers. Watching people get dragged is always more enjoyable when you don’t have to suffer the consequences of doin the draggin yourself, so please think carefully how YOU can be involved in this dialogue in a productive way that holds a brand you know or love accountable. This is, at its core, the GIFT of our white privilege! Just like my privilege allows me to be a whole ass week late to this post because and ) , white voices are loud and powerful tools for change. We can’t use that privilege for good if we refuse to use our voices at all. 🙊

Solly’s story (just like story) is NOT about another hard-working white mom getting dragged by culture. That storyline is tired. It centers white guilt, reeks of white fragility, and wastes precious time and energy (um, that NOBODY PARENT ACTUALLY HAS) to attack the messenger, instead of being authentically curious and listening to what the actual hell people are truly feeling and telling you. But what upsets me the most about all of this, is the fan community of white parents that are so quick to rush in and galvanize support for a brand that looks like them and speaks like them, without questioning the narrative even for a second. Sollybaby has made this storyline much easier for folx, by ignoring, deleting and tone-policing BIPOC and critical voices on their posts.
And for the Solly lovers, I also understand disappointment. When you snuggle your baby in a wrap, a piece of your heart is in that thing forever!

🔔 Action Alert 🔔

Help raise $5,000 by the end of Feb 2021 for !!

The Resting Garden has made a personal commitment to raise $$$$ towards the financial advancement of future doulas, and there are SO many ways for you to help. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
-------

If you follow my account, you should know a) that there is a huge maternal mortality crisis in our country that is killing Black birthing people and babies, and that b) we have the tools (legislative and otherwise) to fix this!! Let’s go!!BIRTH IS POLITICAL and anyone else who tells you otherwise had got their head in the sand.

In the words of :

“[white] brands are profiting and exploiting the “trendiness” of Black infant/maternal mortality while funding seedy political figures (ie. Taking Cara Babies.) thereby further disconnecting themselves from the true meaning of advocacy on behalf of Black parents and their children. This is unacceptable! Birth in itself is political.
We must reclaim our spaces for ourselves..by financially supporting and creating opportunities for newer doulas.
By launching this campaign, I will be able to usher in a new community of doulas in saint Lucia , who will be taught and guided on certain principles I hold dear: empathy, companionship, advocacy, community building. “
How can you support?

🦋Attend this 6 week Wellness Circle, if you are a LGBTQIA+/POC) birthworker

🦋White allies can donate towards the fund or fund a POC/LGBTQIA+ community member to attend

🦋By a tee- give a doula! Merch Link is in bio

Thank you and please share the love!

Reposted and 📸 from the amazing :
“More benefits of babywearing:
Proprioception is the sensory information your brain receives from the receptors in your muscles, tendons, and ligament which tells the body where it is positioned in space without the need to rely on visual cues. For kids who struggle with processing proprioceptive input (children with sensory disorders, autism disorders, anxiety disorders &, etc), babywearing provides the compression that their body craves. Babywearing is another way of activating the proprioceptive system as it provides your child with a lot of intensive input (deep pressure) so that they can feel their body; it gives input to their muscles and joints. It helps get them in a calm state which also gives them the ability to regulate themselves that's why you notice some kids falling asleep easily when worn or sleeping better when worn. Not every carrier will provide the same input for your child. We can assure you that your child will get their input to the system in a Babuebaby carrier because we designed it with you and your child in mind. For more information on this topic visit an Occupational Therapist in your area.”

Even big kids need . Fantastic brand, fantastic carriers, are made in Canada by WOC biz and Occupational Therapist.
