Saturday March 13 will mark a year since NYC public schools closed.
While many private and parochial schools reopened by fall, NYC public schools have remained more closed than open, repeatedly shutting down for the "2 Case Rule," spacing kids an excessive 8 ft apart in classrooms thereby severely reducing days kids can attend in-person, using monitors and plugging kids into devices in middle schools, and transforming high schools into vaccination sites. The UFT - United Federation of Teachers has repeatedly stood in the way of school reopening, and refused to tie teacher vaccination to a mandated return to teaching in the classroom.
demands a full return to school, five days a week, in person, with live teachers (not monitors and screens) for our city's 1 million public school children. We know this can be done safely and immediately impact children who are suffering in remote and restore families who need to get back to work and normalcy.
What do we want? OPEN SCHOOLS! When do we want it? NOW!
This timeline offers a look at how a full year of living and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded.
