these greens are loaded with phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, and compounds that keep our bodies running smoothly 🏃🏽♀️ every. single. day. but really. whether you’re exposed to sunlight, live in a polluted city, eat foods with additives, smoke or live with someone who does (va**ng counts ☁️) you, my friends, are exposed to free radicals that can damage your DNA and over time impair your health 🧬 luckily we have repair systems in place, but they don’t work as well as we get older, so we need to NOURISH them with our diets 💯 ever wonder how plants protect themselves from predators, sun exposure, high/low temperatures, bacteria, etc?? (actually don’t answer that 😳) plants 🌱 too have their own “immune systems” and mechanisms in tact to protect themselves from environmental damage, and there’s research showing how eating plants allows us humans 👧🏽👦🏻 to reap the benefits of their biological defenses 🙌🏼 and these sun dried tomatoes? loaded with lycopene, an antioxidant that helps protect us from UV damage and so. much. more. THIS is what keeps us healthy 🙌🏼 sooo give your greens the acknowledgement they deserve 💚 .

I don’t even know what to call this 😳 “so hungry I stuffed everything I could into a chickpea taco” taco? it happened to work out (DELISH 🙌🏼), but this is why it’s never the best idea to wait until you’re so hungry you can’t see straight to eat 👀😳 if you’re anything like me you’ll start eating random ingredients that don’t make sense (and not in the culinary genius way) and it’s simply less enjoyable than if you had given yourself ten extra minutes to think clearly 🤨 I started with sautéed onions.. which I turned into a homemade spinach and onion dip.. which I threw on a chickpea tortilla and added chickpeas, tomatoes, and onions. pretty sure there’s BBQ sauce in there too. don’t ask. 😬

There is a rising interest in low calorie, low carb, sugar-free foods, which has led to a glut of new products containing non-nutritive sweeteners. A diet high in real sugar significantly increases disease risk, but intake of non-nutritive sweeteners also has the potential to negatively impact your health. They can increase your risk of type 2 diabetes and negatively impact your gut microbiome.

White potatoes get a bad rep in the nutrition world when compared to sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes and regular potatoes are both considered root vegetables, and when considering their nutrition profile, both types are highly nutritious. 3.5 ounces of white potatoes contains 92 calories, 2 grams of protein, 0.15 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbs, and 2.1 grams of fiber. 3.5 ounces of sweet potatoes contains 90 calories, 2 grams of protein, 0.15 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbs, and 3.3 grams of fiber. While sweet potatoes are often placed on a pedestal, the two types are quite similar and both hold a place in a healthy, well-balanced, nutritious diet.

was craving cold peanut butter sesame noodles... sooo I made them myself 🙌 and healthified it a drop😃 I wish I could provide an exact recipe (I 👀 everything these days) but I used whole wheat spaghetti and a combo of sesame oil, soy sauce, peanut butter, honey, and sesame seeds. after evenly mixing the "sauce" over the hot spaghetti, I stuck it in the fridge overnight. today, this is everything I need 🙏

Hi, I’m Leah!

I am a firm believer that our genes may hold the blueprint of our health, but they’re not our destiny. In other words, just because a certain medical condition runs in your family, doesn’t mean it is certain that will develop it too!

When I was a little girl and my mother would prepare steamed vegetables for dinner, I used to ask her to set aside the water from the steam so I could drink the cocktail of nutrients that would leak from the veggies.

It’s fair to say that I’ve been fascinated by nutrition from a young age. I’m driven by prevention - the fact that the food we eat has the power to manipulate our genes and prevent certain chronic complications from occurring in the first place. I believe that food does far more than just provide calories, but rather provides information to our cells and allows our bodies to function optimally… if we eat well!

After receiving my undergraduate degree in dietetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and subsequently completing my dietetic internship at Montefiore Medical Center and my masters degree in Clinical Nutrition at NYU in 2014, I began to practice privately, seeing clients from all over the country. I realized very quickly that weight loss often came hand-in-hand with my healthy eating approach, once solely intended for disease prevention or management.
