What if the best networking, connection, and fun at events had nothing to do with alcohol?

On the latest episode of the Sober & Lit Podcast, we sit down with Laura Nelson—author of The Inclusive Event Planner and founder of Sober Life Rocks.
After years of social and professional drinking, Laura had her “enough” moment in 2020 and chose an alcohol-free life. Now she’s helping people and companies create sober-inclusive events where everyone feels welcome.

In this episode we talk about:✨ Why so many events revolve around alcohol✨ How to network and connect without the bar being the center of the room✨ Simple ways hosts can make gatherings inclusive for drinkers and non-drinkers✨ Why more people are quietly choosing to drink less than you might think

Because the best events? They’re about people, conversation, and connection—not what’s in your glass.

In the early days of exploring my drinking I used a mantra: “Never question the decision” any time the thought of drinking came up. This tool really worked for me in some of my hardest moments to just stop the permission giving thoughts and make a different choice in that moment.

I shared this on the episode of Sober & Lit that dropped today- featuring a tool from Miss Ruby called SNAP. Check it out!

If you have a mantra, what is it? Share below

If you don’t, what mantra do you think would work for you. Feel free to borrow mine!

I'm on a mission:
Let's normalize choosing not to drink an addictive substance that causes cancer, shall we?

The average trajectory from starting to think your drinking might not be working for you to actually taking the steps to stop or take a break? 6-10 years!

When I was exploring my drinking even after taking breaks and knowing I felt better, I would always go back. It might be for stress, or a special occasion. I would tell myself “just one” or I just “need this right now now” or “I’m sure I can moderate, now”

Wherever you are on your timeline- just don’t give up! Keep going!
