The “8–10 Month Old Sleep Regression” just doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it? 😉
What’s commonly called the 9-month sleep regression isn’t actually about the number on the calendar. It’s the result of big developmental changes that can show up anytime between 7–10 months.
Here’s what’s really going on during this phase ⬇️
▫️ Major physical milestones like crawling and pulling to stand. Practicing these new skills in the crib can delay falling asleep and lead to more night wakings.
▫️ Object permanence: your baby is suddenly very aware of when you’re there and when you leave. I prefer the term “separation awareness” over “separation anxiety”, but regardless of what you call it, it can lead to bedtime resistance when you exit the room.
▫️ Teething, which can cause discomfort and make both falling asleep and staying asleep harder.
▫️ Nap transitions on the horizon as wake windows continue to lengthen and your little one gets staple on 2 naps.
Instead of focusing on when a regression might happen, it’s far more helpful to understand why it’s happening, and how to support your baby through it.
If you think this milestone regression is approaching, we’ve got a blog with your next steps! Comment BLOG below and we’ll sent it you!
