Looking back at a memorable 2025: Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the New York Community Engagement Alliance (NYCEAL) and in partnership with New York University, the FLASH Initiative (Food for Living, Access to Systems and Supportive Strategies in Health) is working to reduce chronic disease disparities in the Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx.

The initiative focuses on improving food security, social connectedness, physical activity, and healthy nutrition. Bronx Health REACH partnered with Manna of Life Ministries, New Covenant Community Development Corp, and Reconciliation Families in Christ to bring this work to the community. We held 9 cooking demonstrations and 3 nutrition workshops that reached a total of 121 participants.

Looking Back at a Memorable 2025: In partnership with Cornell University and New York University, Bronx Health Reach offered the Cornell FoodBox Program to 30 patients and families from The Institute for Family Health Stevenson Family Health Center, Walton Family Health Center, and WIC Morrisania. The program provided weekly food boxes for 12 weeks to 30 families with at least one child age 10 or younger. Through this medically tailored grocery box delivery program—made possible in partnership with Instacart—families received nutritious foods designed to support health and wellness. Looking Back at a Memorable 2025: We are sharing highlights promoting healthy food access and nutrition in the Bronx: 11 sites participated in our Health Bucks Best Practices Training and 2,800 Health Bucks coupons were distributed, with an impressive 80.9% average redemption rate. There were 24 farmers’ market tours with 274 participants. Our partners held cooking demonstrations with 284 total participants that featured recipes like raw corn salad, mango bean salsa and spinach & strawberry salad.

We Demand More Time to Comment on the Cross Bronx Expressway Project! NY State has only given Bronx residents until JAN 9 to review a nearly 6,000-page Draft Environmental Assessment for the Cross Bronx “5 Bridges” project. This rushed timeline shuts families and community members out of a process that will impact our neighborhoods for decades. This 6-year project affects traffic, air quality, noise, and safety across the Bronx and our communities deserve a fair and accessible public comment process.
