Working with the birth to 3 population over the past two decades has been a joy and a never-ending learning experience.

Moving away from the medical model of “let me fix your child’s deficits” to “let’s partner together to support your child’s learning and development during everyday routines” has been a game changer.

Having little ones practice a new skill in the environment whey they are expected to USE that new skill means we don’t have to hope and pray for generalization. This is the reason why we provide services in the child’s natural environment as opposed to a clinic setting.

Learning how to effectively partner with parents and caregivers to support their child’s development isn’t the easiest service delivery model, but it is the most effective.

Review of studies on parent-implemented intervention embedded into daily routines found that parents can be taught how to promote their child’s development and that their children improve as a result.

🛑Remember, there are some foods that should ALWAYS be avoided till age 4 until kids have the maturity & cognition to attend to chewing well! What about electronic toys? Don’t be fooled by claims that fancy toys will make your baby smarter. There is no research that shows that adding lights and sound boosts a child’s brain power. Remember: the more the toy is doing, the less your child is learning.

As the holidays approach, choose gifts that will spark your child's imagination and stand the test of time.

…”the research on self-control and self-regulation suggests that children who master the skills needed to keep their masks on will grow up to be better at achieving their long-term goals, solving problems and handling stressful situations.”

Ideally, face coverings wouldn’t be necessary in school. But for now, they present an educational opportunity.

MASKING:”While this is a natural concern, there is no evidence that use of face masks interferes with speech and language development or social communication.”

A year and a half into the pandemic and no solid end in sight, some families wonder whether continuous mask use by daycare providers, preschool teachers, and other adults may negatively affect their child's speech and language development. While it's a natural concern, there is no evidence th...
