Ever heard of tooth shaving or enamel reduction during Invisalign treatment? 🦷 It might sound a little intimidating, but it’s actually a safe and common part of treatment for some patients.

Braces and aligners are safe and effective, but sometimes issues can pop up unexpectedly. Knowing what to do ahead of time can make a big difference in keeping your smile healthy and comfortable. Here’s how to handle common orthodontic emergencies:

🪥 Loose Bracket or Band: Call our office right away. If it’s poking your cheek, cover the sharp part with orthodontic wax or a cotton ball until you can be seen.

🧼 Wire Irritation: Use a cotton swab or eraser to move the wire away from sore spots. You can also cover it with orthodontic wax or a small cotton ball for comfort.

🧩 Lost Separator: A separator (or spacer) is a small device placed between your teeth before braces to create space for bands. If it falls out, it’s usually not urgent, but call the office to see if it needs replacement.

🧊 Discomfort or Soreness: Mild soreness after braces or adjustments is normal. Use a warm washcloth or over-the-counter pain reliever if needed.

🩹 Trauma to Mouth or Teeth: For serious injuries, go to the nearest emergency room. For minor injuries, rinse with warm salt water, apply ice, and call our office.
