Happy Filipino-American History Month!
For context, some of our ancestors were displayed in Human Zoos in St. Louis Missouri in 1904, in Coney Island Luna park in 1905, and around the United States and the World. This is a way for us to educate communities and "change" our history from being Human Zoo displays to cultural ambassadors! Join me and my Austronesian-Filipino Indigenous dance troupe, the Cordillera Cultural Ensemble (www.cordilleraculturalensemble.com) on October 4th at the Flux Factory for the opening of Maureen Catbagan's work entitled, "Alagaan and Salaysay" in Long Island City, Queens, NY @6:00PM and at Governor's Island, Colonel's Row, NY on Sunday, October 5th for the Filipino American History Month - "Remembering Our Living Traditions & Reflecting on Community Resilience" - this is an event from 11AM-5PM, the CCE are performing at 2:30PM. Please find the program for October 5th below:
