You can change your life at any time!

I have clients frequently tell me they are “too old” to become a doctor, an entrepreneur or move to their dream location. Or they tell me it is too late to achieve their dreams, regardless of if the dream is to find love, have kids, study painting, read War and Peace or play the piano.

As long as you have time, you have options.
How do you do it?
Identify what you want.
Identify the first step.
Start stepping.
As long as you have time, you have options. Repeat after me… as long as I have time, I have options.
At age 50, yes five zero, I decided I was going to become fit. And keep in mind, I’m not an ex-jock who went back to the gym. I had plenty of gym memberships, but had never achieved what I wanted. I identified my objective (lose 100 pounds), the first step (get a complete physical exam to find out if I was ready for the challenge) and then I started stepping. Over the next few years I lost over 100 pounds. Becoming fit allowed me to play sports, make friends, date, sleep better, wear stylish clothes and start becoming the best version of me.
Becoming? Yes, becoming. I am—you are—we all are a work in progress. Getting what I wanted opened up other options and even as I type I am working on my next steps.

How do you know when you are hungry?
*
It may sound like a silly question, but it’s an important one. Many times those of us who struggle with issues around food genuinely don’t know.
*
Most of my life, any time I felt hungry I thought “wow I am hungry--what can I eat?” I could not sit still for more than a few minutes. I had to have food and I had to have it immediately. After decades of impulsive behavior, I changed my approach.
*
I started asking myself am I hungry? Can I sit with my these feelings for a few minutes without acting on the desire to eat? How long could I do it? At first it was a few minutes, then half an hour, eventually an hour.
*
It boiled down to a simple (but hard) concept; I needed to wait a bit before I put anything in my mouth. Where was I? Who was I around? How did I feel? Many times my “hunger” was actually anxiety, or depression or loneliness. Understanding that difference was a big step forward for me.
*
What about you? Do you ever feel hungry when you are not really hungry at all?

Now that the days are longer and it’s starting to warm up across our hemisphere people are starting to return to the gym. Covid or not, I am seeing new faces and bodies hard at work at my gym. As we mark the one year anniversary of the pandemic, let’s take a moment to be thankful and then get off our butts and get moving. Being fit is the best defense against this virus or any illness. It is so unbelievable to think that we are a few steps closer to getting rid of that racist game show host Donald Trump!

𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗬𝗘𝗦 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝗱! What did you dream?
^^^^^
All over the place I keep hearing people, speaking through masks, telling stories about their crazy dreams. Stories include dreams of catching the virus from an Ebay package, being stuck in an elevator with a coughing stranger or fearing people who love them just because they want a really big hug.
^^^^^^
Many (all?) of us are having a higher level of stress and that is elevating our stress hormones. Research shows that elevated stress hormones, such as cortisol or adrenaline, can make our dreams more extreme than they normally would be.
^^^^^
Because so many people have less to do, their minds are digging deeper than ever before for dream material. Their lack of activity also means they pay attention to dreams more than they used to and they are more likely to remember those dreams.
^^^^^
Luckily, for many people, sharing their strange dreams online allows people relief. Have you had any strange pandemic dreams? Tell me about your dreams in the comments below and I can answer any questions you have as well.

I probably miss the gym more than most. But I am not going to go back until I feel the curve is checked. I’d rather be slightly pudgy and alive.

Do you miss your gym?
Here I am at my office in Manhattan after an entire day working; now I’m doing my other job. I really miss my gym but even more than that I really miss working out. So I’m making it happen where I can.
I am determined to come out of this crisis in better shape then I came into it. You can too! All you have to do is put the phone down and start moving. Simple and hard. Stay safe. Stay home!
