There are small physical signals that show when someone has entered the hypnotic state. One of the most common is called the hypnotic eye roll, where the eyes naturally drift upward as the nervous system relaxes and the mind begins to shift inward.

Most of the time the eyelids close.

But occasionally they don’t.

In rare cases you can actually see the whites of the eyes while someone is completely relaxed in hypnosis. It may look unusual, but it’s simply one of the body’s natural responses as the mind moves deeper into trance.
