I used to think regulating my cycle would mean expensive labs, supplements, or meds.

But the biggest changes didn’t come from what I bought, they came from how I lived.

✔️ I shifted to a hormone-supportive way of eating (more whole grains, leafy greens, healthy fats, less processed stuff)

✔️ I moved my body regularly, but didn’t push past my energy limits

✔️ I stopped obsessing over perfection and let go of the pressure to “do it all right”

✔️ I managed stress not by eliminating it, but by softening my nervous system and letting joy back in

Red light therapy is having a moment, but is it worth it for fertility?

Here’s the quick take:

✨ There’s not great evidence.

✨ There are open questions about long-term safety.

✨ And most of the buzz? Comes from people profiting from the products. (Yikes.)

It’s marketed with science-y words like photobiomodulation and oxidative stress, but when we actually look at the research, it’s mostly animal studies, poor-quality trials, or papers written by people who literally sell red light machines. 

One paper (widely quoted) doesn’t even include a proper control group and was authored by a laser lab owner… who unsurprisingly concluded his treatment was effective. 😬

And let’s not forget: most blogs hyping this up also link you straight to an affiliate shop.

If you’ve ever typed “foods to avoid when TTC” into Google, you’ve probably seen someone say:

No sugar.
No bread.
No fruit.
No joy.

🍦The good news? You don’t have to cut out sugar completely. 

It’s about understanding how blood sugar and insulin impact your hormones, especially the ones that regulate ovulation and fertility.

✨ When your blood sugar spikes too often, your body produces more insulin.

✨ When that happens repeatedly, it can cause insulin resistance.

✨ And that can mess with your reproductive hormones, even if your labs look “normal.”

If you’re trying to support your fertility through food…

Here’s what I look for when I’m grocery shopping as a fertility expert:

🥬 Anti-inflammatory basics:

Leafy greens, cruciferous veggies, berries, omega-3s

Think: foods that calm the nervous system and support hormone regulation

🥑 Blood sugar stabilizers:

Protein sources (eggs, poultry, tofu)

High-fiber carbs (beans, oats, lentils, quinoa)

Healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, nuts)

🥩 Cycle-supportive nutrients:

Folate from leafy greens

Iron from lentils and red meat

Zinc and selenium from seafood (or pumpkin seeds if you’re plant-based)

🧅 Gut health staples:

Fermented foods like kefir, yogurt, kimchi, or sauerkraut
Prebiotic-rich veggies like onions, leeks, and asparagus

🍎 Low-tox swaps:

Organic if possible for the “Dirty Dozen”

Glass over plastic

Fewer additives, more whole ingredients

You don’t need to buy out the organic aisle or go 100% perfect. But small shifts in your cart = big shifts in your cycle.
