I am a beach girl. If I’m being honest when it’s cold out I prefer to be inside, snuggled up under my cats as I eagerly await the arrival of Spring. That said, I know that Winter is an opportunity for me, even if I don’t want to be out in the elements.
When we look at winter through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine it is clear that this is a time for stillness and inward reflection. It is in this stillness that we can replenish our body, mind, and spirit. Here are a couple of ideas to help you embrace this season:
* Practice saying, “no.” If you feel stressed and overwhelmed, find one thing in your calendar this week that you can gently decline. Protect that time and do something for yourself. Or do nothing at all!
* Focus on your sleep hygiene. Try to make it a priority to get good, quality sleep.
* Try some micro-meditation. If sitting down for a full meditation session feels impossible, pick a mantra that resonates with you and try to quiet your mind with it as you move through your day. It doesn’t have to be long or complicated. Try simply taking a deep breath in. On your exhale bring your mind to the words, “I am loved.”
Take care of you.
