On March 11, 2008, the U.S. recognized the first National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day—the same day the Space Shuttle Endeavour launched a major mission to the International Space Station. Two very different moments in one day: one honoring those who care for families on earth, and one reaching for the stars. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration

There was an unfortunate hit and run in our area and we were brought into the incident because of our video cameras on our property, that may have captured the suspect. Unfortunately social media has misinformed parts of our community about what occurred regarding the incident on Friday afternoon saying that we refused to provide footage from our private property.

Like we have in the past when the police requests our assistance from our cameras we gladly will work to review and provide footage that may assist.

Unfortunately, on the day of the incident, the officer who approached our facility was not able to allow us time to gather the necessary information or individuals to extract the footage or to determine which camera footage would be most helpful, and he left abruptly.

To his defense, I do believe he was urgently trying to locate the specific person and vehicle and didn't have time for those who are able and knowledgeable of the camera system to provide that. There was no refusal. As always we want to help make our community a better and safer place. The requested footage has been provided to the Newark Police Department, and will hopefully help find the suspect. If you have any info to help, please contact Newark Police Department.

As a funeral director, there are moments in this vocation that weigh especially heavy on the heart. The loss of two young lives from one family in our community is one of those moments.

There truly are no words sufficient for such a tragedy. Yet, in the midst of profound sorrow, we have witnessed something deeply moving — the power of God's love and community.

We have seen prayers lifted without ceasing. Novenas and rosaries offered with devotion. Donations given generously. Floral arrangements sent with love. Long lines of friends, classmates, teachers, colleagues, and neighbors coming to the visitation simply to stand in solidarity with this grieving family.

This is what it means to belong to a community. This is what it means to carry one another.

To everyone who has reached out, shown up, prepared food, sent messages, prayed, or simply sat in silence — thank you. Your presence matters more than you know.

For those unable to attend in person, we will be livestreaming the Mass of Christian Burial here on our page, Henderson - Van Atta - Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, so that all who wish may join in prayer.

Please continue to keep this family in your prayers in the days and weeks ahead. Grief does not end with the funeral, and your continued love and support will remain a great comfort.

Pre-planning is something most people would say they don't do well at. Making prearrangements or talking about death is usually not a subject people want to discuss, but it is very important to know what the final steps will be for you and your loved ones. It's never too early to talk to a Funeral Director about what you want in a funeral.

After a loved one dies, should you have a funeral? Learn why we have funerals and how they can help your family.

An exciting update for our Licking County today, September 19, 2023, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) decided unanimously to inscribe the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks of Ohio to the World Heritage List. This inscription is Ohio's first and the Nation's 25th. It is a serial inscription including The Great Circle Earthworks of Newark and Heath, The Octagon Earthworks of Newark, and six other sites spanning Ross and Warren Counties. All eight newly inscribed sites, constructed by early Native Americans in the Ohio Valley between 1,600 and 2,000 years ago, are some of the finest examples of ancient human brilliance on earth. The Ohio Earthworks are now confirmed as places of outstanding universal value to humanity for today and the generations yet to experience their graceful beauty, sacred nature, geometric precision, and astronomical inspirations. Ohio's Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks now joins a list of places worldwide, such as Stonehenge, The Great Pyramids of Egypt, the Acropolis, and nearly 1,155 other sites across 167 countries.

It is a banner day for the United States, Ohio, and Licking County. We should take a moment to reflect on the magnitude of this decision and our efforts and responsibility as Licking Countians in preserving these American Indian sites of architectural genius into the future.

What Can I Say Instead of You’re in my Thoughts and Prayers?

I am so deeply sorry for your loss

I will be thinking of you and sending my love

We will miss them more than words can say

They touched our lives and so many others

Please know I’m always here for you

You aren’t alone, we are here for you whatever you may need

No words could fully express my sorrow

There is nothing more I can say than how deeply sorry I am

I love you, please accept my condolences

Nothing I can say will ease your pain, but I am forever sorry for losing someone so special
