It is eggs-citing to be a DSP!

Meet Simone, a DSP at Center for Disability Services , Adult Day Service! Before becoming a DSP, Simone worked in the healthcare field as an STNA. Looking for a more work-life balance, she found her place at CDS a year ago, where they understand the importance of having a family outside of work.

Simone is especially grateful for her manager, Jamye, who has taught her about working in the DD field and helped build her confidence. She loves her team and how well they all work together to make each day fun for the individuals and for themselves!

Outside of being a DSP, Simone has a son and two dogs and enjoys playing video games! Her favorite part of being a DSP is getting to know all of the individuals and learning about their hobbies. Her advice for new DSPs is to treat the individuals as your friends. They are just as nervous to get to know you, as you are to know them. But once they open up, there is no looking back!

If you are searching for a fun, rewarding career that can offer you a work-life balance, reach out to DSP Employment Connections to learn more about becoming a DSP!

Today I was able to see a few of the DSP-U students from Watkins Memorial High School at their last internship site. Thank you to Ann and her staff with Our Sparks for supporting these students and teaching them the hands on skills needed to become a DSP! Lighthouse Cove and Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities are very excited to see these students graduate and help educate others on what it tasks to become a Direct Support Professional!

Way to go Center for Disability Services !!

We are proud of the ways that LCBDD works with people we support, families and providers to help people move forward and accomplish their outcomes. But with such a complicated system, it can be hard to understand how that all comes together.
But then we sit down and talk to someone like Harmony Bland who is making her goal a reality with the support of her team — and the work we do every day becomes clearer.
At first it sounds like a simple request — Harmony, 22, wants to change her last name to honor the man she considers her father.
But several years ago, Harmony faced a devastating obstacle. Instead of letting the painful situation define her, she decided to improve her reading and writing so she could try again.
Her team at Center for Disability Services has come alongside her to help her practice and her progress has been amazing! We can't wait to see her meet her goal and are grateful for the opportunity to support her and her family along the way!

Meet Noah, a DSP with Consumer Support Services!

Noah applied to CSS Licking County right out of high school and has been there for the past two years. Noah learned about becoming a DSP from a friend who is also in the field. His favorite part of his job is getting to see the smiling faces of the individuals he supports and cheering them on in their pretend “WWE” matches! Noah’s biggest advice to those who are becoming a DSP is to be patient and treat the individuals just like you would anyone else.

Noah has received numerous shoutouts from his managers and individuals. He is known to do more than expected and does it efficiently! Noah’s supervisor praised him for always having his documentation done, the house clean, picking up extra shifts and communicating effectively with those he works with. He helps individuals work through their feelings and is a great asset to new staff!

If you are looking for a rewarding job that you love, reach out today to find out how you can become a DSP like Noah!

I want to give a huge shout out to CSS Licking County employees for completing the Direct Leadership Certification through Lighthouse Cove! This program is perfect for supporting and teaching providers all the different tools they need in order to be a great leader! Yesterday, I was able to listen to all of their presentations on the best ways to support DSPs and new Supervisors. I was inspired by all the amazing creative ideas that ranged from having mentors, check in worksheets, lanyards that can be worn with pride, building relationships and moving to an electronic system! Thank you to Bethany Toledo and Kevin Metz from Lighthouse Cove for putting on yet another amazing program. Also, thank you to Lisa Diss from CSS Licking County for supporting and encouraging staff through this process!!
