University Hospital and Rutgers Health officially broke ground on the first phase of a multi-year campus redevelopment plan, a transformative project that will expand access to care, education, and research – delivering on the promise of the 1968 Newark Agreements.
The first new building will feature four floors of administrative office space, 11,000 square feet of clinical space for outpatient care, and an 875-space parking garage, replacing the long-standing temporary trailers and marking the beginning of a modernized health sciences campus in the heart of Newark.
We were proud to celebrate this milestone alongside our partners and community leaders including:
Governor Phil Murphy, UH Interim President & CEO Dr. Kaitlan Baston, Incoming University Hospital President & CEO Carole Johnson, Rutgers University President William F. Tate IV, Rutgers Chancellor Brian Strom UH Chief Medical Officer & NJMS Physician Dr. Iris Herrera, UH Chair of Board of Directors Tanya Freeman, Congressman Rob Menendez, Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, Official Newark Historian Junius Williams, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, NJ Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz, State Senator Renee Burgess, Assemblywomen Eliana Pintor Marin, Assemblywomen Shanique Speight and Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo.
Together, we are building the future of healthcare, and it’s taking root right here in Newark.
