In recognition of National Clergy & Chaplain Appreciation Month, we were honored to welcome Governor Phil Murphy to University Hospital to celebrate the faith leaders who bring compassion, comfort, and spiritual care to our community.

The event was hosted by Dr. Errol Stoddart, UH Director of Spiritual Care Services, and Reverend Louise Scott-Rountree, Councilwoman-at-Large. We were also privileged to hear from Dr. George Blackwell III, our keynote speaker; Wintley Phipps, guest presenter; and musical guest Dr. Fondrea Lewis.

We are deeply grateful to our chaplains and clergy for their unwavering dedication to those facing health challenges, personal crises, and life transitions.

University Hospital and Rutgers Health officially broke ground on the first phase of a multi-year campus redevelopment plan, a transformative project that will expand access to care, education, and research – delivering on the promise of the 1968 Newark Agreements.

The first new building will feature four floors of administrative office space, 11,000 square feet of clinical space for outpatient care, and an 875-space parking garage, replacing the long-standing temporary trailers and marking the beginning of a modernized health sciences campus in the heart of Newark.

At University Hospital, we’re committed to making breast cancer screening accessible to all. Our Mammography in Motion mobile unit brings state-of-the-art mammography directly to women in underserved communities, helping ensure early detection and close gaps in health equity. Launched in partnership with the Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation, our mission is to empower as many women as possible with timely, life-saving breast health care.

University Hospital Emergency Medical Services (UH EMS) has expanded its overdose response efforts with the launch of buprenorphine administration on all ALS and MICU units across Newark, Orange, and East Orange.

Buprenorphine is a life-saving medication for opioid use disorder that relieves withdrawal symptoms and reduces urges, providing patients with immediate access to treatment at the point of crisis. This transformative program strengthens UH’s ability to directly address opioid withdrawal within the community.
