We are honored to introduce our next CCH Voices of Valor feature, recognizing Cheryl O'Connor, a 79-year-old United States Navy Veteran whose story of resilience, sacrifice, and faith reflects the true spirit of strength and perseverance.
Our featured story highlights a truly inspiring individual—our first female veteran spotlight, Cheryl O'Connor, a 79-year-young Navy veteran who dedicated 10 years of service to our country.
Cheryl joined the U.S. Navy at just 18 years old in 1976. During her time in the military, she discovered her lifelong calling—caring for others—which led her to become a nurse serving wounded soldiers. She shared that basic training was one of her biggest challenges, especially all the running (which she admits she didn’t enjoy!).
Cheryl credits her military experience for shaping her discipline and her continued passion for helping others. Even today, as a resident in a nursing home, she continues to look out for those around her—alerting staff when fellow residents may need assistance.
When asked if she would serve again if given the opportunity, Cheryl didn’t hesitate. Her answer: “Yes, I would be privileged to serve my country again.”
We hope you will join us for this powerful and heartfelt story as we honor Cheryl and all those who have served.
