Guys, it’s only Friday morning of this holiday weekend and there’s already been one accident. I don’t know details, so please don’t ask. Please just stay positve and say some prayers if you’re so inclined for the rider and the first responders. I’m sure details will be shared in time.
It’s going to be a busy weekend for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
Please know that only a few days ago, we had warm temps and rain everywhere in the UP. While it’s frigid now, that can be very deceiving.
- please watch for water holes and slushy spots. If you’re not comfortable going over them, don’t!
-trails are icy in many spots due to the rain and then flash freeze, with minimal new snow
-please ride sober. Lots of families will be out.
Plenty of time to party back at your warm and safe lodging. Be respectful that you’re not the only one out there.
-ride right, and lead right. Keep your least experienced rider in mind at all times, and set the pace accordingly. Your lead and your sweep should be your most experienced riders.
-download and start the what3words app when you head out. This helps first responders find your exact location if needed. You can even text 911 in most areas.
-be prepared for an emergency. An emergency blanket, anything that can be used as a tourniquet, a tow strap, extra gloves and socks, water, and snacks are the basics that I carry with me at all times.
-don’t ride alone, especially if you’re not sure of the terrain. If you do, let someone know where you’re going and when you’ve reached your destination.
-watch for groomers. We may have people out at odd times depending on the need and availability of volunteers. Wait for the groomer to stop and wave you by before you pass.
Most of all, have a great time, and stay safe so you can do it all again! ❄️❄️❄️
