"Should I get the COVID vaccine?" - a question many are asking now that the vaccine is becoming more available. There are still many who have doubts, those who do not trust it, those who think they do not need it.. . . there are still so many questions. My family, friends, patients and to all of you, for us to take control of this COVID-19 pandemic, we all need to get vaccinated. As of this week, only 6% of the minority community in Florida has been vaccinated! There are many videos out there. I have attached a YouTube video of a Townhall meeting which was conducted several weeks ago and addresses so many of these questions. Last weekend we lost a super hero - Black Panther - to colon cancer. How shocking that a healthy young man would be diagnosed with this disease at just 39 years of age and would succumb to it in just 4 years!
We do not usually start screening for colon cancer until age 50 unless there is a strong family history. Recently, acknowledging that Black/African American people are at greater risk, and knowing that early detection is key for a more positive outcome, the American Cancer Society has recommended that screening begin at age 45 for this population.
Please, if you experience any blood in the stool, or change in bowel pattern, size, no matter how young you are, you should talk to your doctor about colon cancer screening. There are several options and we can always find a way!

We celebrated our 1 year Anniversary of opening our practice on 9/4/19. What an amazing experience to have found so much joy in practicing medicine the way that we want to!
