Carpal Tunnel or Arthritis in the Hand? Knowing the Difference Matters.
Hand pain is common, but the cause is not always the same. Two of the most frequent conditions we see are carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis. While they can feel similar, the underlying issues and symptoms are different.
Key differences include numbness and nighttime symptoms that spare the pinky, which often point to carpal tunnel, a nerve related condition caused by pressure on the median nerve. Aching, stiffness, and joint-specific pain that worsens with use suggest arthritis, which is joint related. The only way to know for sure which condition is causing your symptoms is to be evaluated by a specialist.
If your hand pain is persistent, worsening, or interfering with daily activities, it may be time to schedule an appointment. The right diagnosis leads to better outcomes.
