Been reading a ton of great articles about the expansion of Newburgh lately, and to add to the excitement, I wanted to highlight some of the (many) incredible organizations that are keeping the current members of the community at the heart of Newburgh’s progress - these deserve just as much love as the latest coffee shop or art gallery. I’m excited about the revitalization efforts going on, but not at the displacement of individuals already here. Please consider volunteering or donating. If you haven’t already heard, Newburgh’s favorite coffee shop just got a whole lot cooler (if that were even possible). After a wildly successful first year of operation, Jerrod and Melanie have taken incredible steps in keeping this city and it’s people at the heart of their shop, and now, with the Blacc Vanilla Community Foundation, those steps have become strides. They’ve partnered with Choice Films, Umbra Stages, and MyFOURmula for “...skills development and job training programs for the city’s underserved and at-risk youth and young adults.” These guys are the future of this place we all call home, and their safety, their well-being, and their potential is the most important thing we can support. All of the brunch spots, pop-up shops and murals that line the streets of Newburgh are secondary to the people that make this little city so unique, and it’s businesses like Blacc Vanilla that are keeping Newburgh, Newburgh.
