Head Lice: What You Need to Know

Head lice are common—especially when kids are back in school. Here’s a quick guide to help:

Detection:

• Itchy scalp, especially behind the ears & neck.

• Tiny white/yellow eggs (nits) stuck to hair shafts.

• Adult lice (tan/gray, sesame-seed sized) moving quickly.

What to Do if You Find Lice:

1. Choose a treatment:

• OTC: Permethrin (Nix®), Pyrethrin (RID®).

• Rx: Spinosad (Natroba®), Ivermectin lotion (Sklice®), Malathion (Ovide®).

• Natural options: Lice Ice (enzyme-based), or wet combing with conditioner.

2. Use a fine-tooth nit comb daily.

3. Wash bedding, hats, towels & recently worn clothes in hot water and dry on high heat.

Prevention Tip: Avoid sharing hats, hairbrushes, and hair ties. Regular head checks can catch lice early.

Is Your Sleep Routine Helping or Hurting You?

A good night’s sleep isn’t just about the number of hours—it’s about quality.

Creating a consistent bedtime routine, limiting screens before bed, and keeping your sleep environment cool and dark can make a big difference.

But what about melatonin?

Melatonin can be helpful for certain sleep issues, like adjusting to a new sleep schedule, but it’s not for everyone. It works best when combined with healthy sleep habits—not as a replacement for them.
