This year Birch Point is focusing on a women and children’s shelter. This incredible organization is called New Generation. They protect women who are pregnant or have children. They provide shelter, transportation, education, job opportunities and eventually transitional housing. They take strong moms, and help them get back to their fiercest, independent selves. New Generation is woman to woman support.

Please bring ANY and all donations to Birch Point Healthcare in Newington NH. There are large donation boxes at the third floor entrance to Birch Point!

Social prescribing: this is the form of medical prescribing that acknowledges and addresses the importance of bolstering your bodies basic needs from the world around it. It is like eating more vegetables to lower your cholesterol before taking a statin medication. But social prescribing goes even further, prescribing attending adult swim or walking groups one to three times a week to try to heal loneliness and subsequently, depression and the chronic illnesses associated with that downstream effects of loneliness. Or prescribing fishing (yes, this was prescribed by a provider in the UK!) to find calm and relaxation (and subsequently helped lower a patients blood pressure and boost overall mood).

Social prescribing is not a replacement cure or treatment for medications. But it is an undervalued and underutilized intervention that is highly effective in assisting very real medical conditions by first addressing the missing social or physical components our body needs first, before ascertaining that medication may also be needed to maximize health outcomes.
