Poison ivy, oak, and sumac are all types of contact dermatitis. You can come in contact with the plant oil and develop a rash that is hard to eliminate on your own. We provide a topical steroid cream and a steroid pill pack that you take with food in a tapering dose over five days. Avoid hot showers. After contact with the oil, wash with soap and water then rinse. Then use rubbing alcohol on a cloth to clear your skin within a few hours of exposure to the plant oil. Alcohol is useless a day later. Yard cleanups and tree workers often fill our waiting room until the real frosts occur after Thanksgiving.

Working with knifes in the kitchen can create some significant wounds. We get restaurant kitchen chefs to home cooks coming in with cuts. Weekends and nights are the most common time people come in and keep our doctor busy treating these cases. Scalp lacerations have to be cleaned well. Wound preparation is very important. Close alignment of skin edges helps us get a great result every time. STD check-ups are done here daily. A five panel Quest test includes GC/Chlamydia (urine) and HIV, Herpes, and Syphilis (blood). We draw the specimens at our Clinic and Quest Diagnostics runs them in their lab in Massachusetts. The results come back soon and we call every patient with their results confidentially.

Many patients find themselves in a dehydrated condition from nausea and vomiting. Intravenous fluid is available here for certain cases. We also monitor your electrolytes with a blood sample sent to Quest. This procedure is best done early in the day rather than at the end of the day since it takes time to administer.
