Yesterday, we posted session topics for the first day of our 2025 State Conference. And now, here are the topics for day two – Wednesday, December 10!

At 9:30 am, we’ll start the day with ‘The Phenomenon of the Older Worker,’ which looks at conditions that may affect older workers and how we can use universal design principles to create accessible, equitable work environments. Come back at 12:30 for ‘Coexisting Assistive Listening Systems,’ an overview of all six assistive listening technologies that are currently available, and what challenges users commonly face. We’ll close the day with ‘Accessible Recreation in Action’ at 3 pm, looking at how accessibility is being integrated into recreational spaces across Connecticut.

The State of Connecticut has created a set of handouts that clearly explain accessible voting options. Check them out to educate yourself and share them with others, too! https://portal.ct.gov/sots/education/accessible-voting

The became law in 1990, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. The New York Times recently reported on the experiences of disabled riders on Amtrak – which aims to be fully ADA-compliant by 2029. The verdict? Riding Amtrak is much better than flying, but passengers with disabilities still sometimes ‘feel like freight.’
