Coweta County Genealogical Society

Coweta County Genealogical Society The Coweta County Genealogical Library is open to the public free of charge. We do ask for donations to help with "keeping the door open".

As a non-profit organization, the Coweta County Genealogical Society of Georgia is dedicated to the researching, recording and preservation of historical and genealogical records for present day and future historians and genealogical researchers. The volunteers will assist you in getting started with your research by giving you possible places or sources on where you may go to check out information. We will do some general lookup information to help you, but we do not research your tree for you. If you come into the library you will be able to look at the different collections we have: books, magazines from other societies (in state and out of state), some microfilm and some newspapers. Our book collection includes family histories, Bibles and different state and county information. If you are not from Coweta County or even Georgia, you may find information in some of our out of state collections. If you have more questions please contact us at info@ccgsinc.org

Genealogists Know Better… But Do We Do It?

We spend hours researching ancestors from 200 years ago and yet sometimes we forget to document our own generation.

If your photos are not labeled:
Future researchers (including your children and grandchildren) will hit a brick wall.

Make it a goal this month:
✔ Identify unknown faces
✔ Add full names
✔ Include dates and locations
✔ Preserve the story behind the image

Don’t let your research end with you.

Here is an example of exactly what I mean. I know who these girls are, but would anyone in the future? They aren't facing the camera and there isn't anything to orient the photo. Don't leave the ones who come after us in the dark!

📝 Before it’s too late, record the story behind a family heirloom.

Who owned it first?
Why was it kept?
What memories are attached to it?

History isn’t just in books — it’s in kitchens, attics, and cedar chests.

Ancestral Math... means in order to be born, you need to have:
2 Parents
4 Grandparents
8 Great Grandparents
16 Second Great Grandparents
32 Third Great Grandparents
64 Fourth Great Grandparents
128 Firth Great Grandparents
256 Six Great Grandparents
512 Seventh Great Grandparents
1,024 Eight Great Grandparents
2,048 Ninth Great Grandparents...
and so on.
Let that sink in. That is 4,094 ancestors in 12 generations before you...needed to make YOU happen.

Kind of Incredible, don't you think?

Ask Now. Record Now.

The stories you mean to ask about someday… need to be asked today.

Our aged relatives carry memories no document will ever record... our family traditions, childhood stories, names behind old photographs, and the truth behind family legends.

Don’t wait.

Sit down with them. Ask questions. Write it down — and record it if they’re comfortable. Even a simple phone recording can preserve a voice for future generations.

When they are gone, the stories go with them.

Preserve more than dates. Preserve their voice. Don't wish you had.
