Free educational materials help parents make better informed vaccination decisions

Physicians for Informed Consent (PIC) has introduced two new educational documents, “Varicella (Chicken Pox): What Parents Need to Know” and “Varicella Vaccine: Is It Safer Than Chicken Pox?” The educational materials include key scientific data on the risks of chicken pox as well as the risks of the varicella vaccine, assisting parents in making a more informed risk-benefit calculation for vaccination.

“Now more than ever, parents are motivated to learn more about the risks of childhood infections and their respective vaccines — and they want to know the numbers,” said Dr. Shira Miller Shira Miller, M.D., founder and president of Physicians for Informed Consent. “Although many parents remember from experience that chicken pox is generally benign, as the chicken pox vaccine is required for childcare and school attendance in all states, and with no religious or personal belief exemption in five states including California, we’re pleased to now make available for free a Disease Information Statement and Vaccine Risk Statement for chicken pox.”

Breaking News, Newport Beach, CA - Doctors and Scientists Send Cautionary Letter to UC Regents Regarding New Flu Shot Requirement

The Physicians for Informed Consent (PIC) letter highlights 7 flu vaccine facts:

1. The flu vaccine increases the risk of contracting a non-flu respiratory illness by 65%.

2. The flu vaccine doesn’t reduce demand on hospitals.

3. The flu vaccine doesn't prevent the spread of the flu.

4. The flu vaccine doesn't reduce deaths from pneumonia and flu.

I've been testing some different Coronavirus (SARS-Cov-2) antibody test kits for use at my clinic. The purpose of these antibody tests is to confer past infection and immunity to Coronavirus, not to diagnose active infection. Antibody tests are also critical to public health departments that wish to do surveillance testing on a population, in order to detect the extent of asymptomatic transmission of an infectious disease. So far, I found the fingerstick blood test the easiest to perform from a patient's perspective, and the one I hope I will be able to offer my patients in the coming weeks. It just requires a little prick of the finger and the collection of a few drops of blood. Many of my patients are already familiar with this type of blood collection for food sensitivity testing, so I know it's possible for patients to do this type of testing at home. Do you want your doctor to offer this Coronavirus home test to you?

Shockingly, Coronavirus antibody test kits for home use are not yet allowed by the FDA.

Love this. Ever since info became available a couple of weeks ago that SARS-COV-2 interferes with hemoglobin function and oxygen transport I have been hoping doctors on the front line would find a way to incorporate hyperbaric oxygen therapy for COVID-19 patients as that allows for bypassing hemoglobin and providing direct oxygenation. I used similar helmets on patients when I worked at the UCSD hyperbaric chamber many moons ago.

I ordered similar COVID/SARS-CoV-2 antibody test kits (“for health professionals only, not FDA approved and not for home use”) for my patients about 10 days ago from a US company and they still haven’t shipped. Looks like I may get them quicker if I ask my friends in the U.K. to ship them to me.

Coronavirus antibody testing is the best way to detect asymptomatic past exposure of a population to the infection, and then calculate the true case fatality ratio (as opposed to an assumed case fatality ratio just based on deaths/reported cases). In my opinion, Coronavirus antibody testing, which would also indicate immunity to the infection, should have started months ago in the US, as part of surveillance testing during an epidemic/pandemic.
