I have surfed. Which doesn’t mean I am a surfer, but I have had the experience of paddling out and with deliberate action popping up to stand on the board, then surrendering to the wave. It is an amazing feel – I just wish it weren’t so cold! It’s a good reminder that control isn’t found in clinging, but in releasing and being ready for the next wave🏄🏻‍♀️🌊

A recent visit to Santa Barbara included special time with family, golf and wine tasting . We also took a spin around my alma mater’s campus . It’s been over 35 years since I was a student there and it made me think what would that young woman who couldn’t believe her good fortune to attend a school where she could get a world class education and an ocean view from her apartment, think of my life now?

She’d be thrilled that we created a life filled with love and joy. She’d be grateful our career journey including a corporate leadership role which was her dream and that we had the courage to launch our own business. She would not be surprised that we wrote a book. We’ve loved writing our whole life and she was already building the discipline to achieve such a big goal. She’d feel sad for the loss of our father so early in his life. She’d be confident in knowing that the hardships and challenges we faced over the past several decades led us to this wonderful life we are living today without which we wouldn’t be who we are. She would be happy my close relationships with family and friends lift me up and fill my heart. And she’d be most proud of having raised such an amazing son🥰

In 2008 when I was naming my company, I knew I wanted to have the word lead, leader or leadership but so did lots of other people. So I went with the obvious answer to put J9 – my nickname in front of it and thus J9 Leading Solutions a leadership development company was born.
