In December 2022, I was diagnosed with polymyositis, a severe autoimmune disease that attacked not only my muscles but also my joints and vital organs, including my lungs and liver. A muscle biopsy and extensive bloodwork confirmed the diagnosis, with my CK levels reaching 6,000—indicating extreme muscle damage—and elevated liver enzymes showing organ involvement. I was in constant, excruciating pain, could barely get out of bed, struggled to walk, swallow, and breathe, and had almost no energy. My condition deteriorated to the point where my husband had to help me with basic daily tasks, and I was no longer able to care for my two children, leaving me fearful about what my future would look like living with this illness.
