Please meet Jane. You can find this former PE teacher at nearly every Hamilton activity, and in the community cheering on her grandkids.
It's National Assisted Living Week! We'd like to introduce you to one of our residents who embraces living here and makes our community great.
When Jane Crosby moved into The Hamilton four years ago, she already felt comfortable. She completed a rehabilitation stay at neighboring York Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, so she got to know the team and community to ease the transition.
“The activities and nursing staff are really good,” she says.
You can always find Jane out and about at The Hamilton. She loves Bingo, live music, tea parties and the sports-geared games, such as pickleball.
The Shelby, North Carolina native moved to the area for work. She was a physical education teacher for 37 years in Newport News at Carver Middle School, and Denbigh and Woodside High Schools. She also coached the girls basketball team and tennis.
It was while she was at Carver that she met her husband through his sister, who also taught at the school. They had two daughters who remain nearby in Gloucester and Newport News, and their families that include four grandchildren.
“We do as much as we can,” says her daughter Kim. “We try to get her for all the things the grandkids do.”
And the grandkids do a lot! They are active in various sports and band, including high school marching band, so Jane will be in the stands at games this season. The family also visits Jane frequently at The Hamilton.
“My sister and I are really grateful to The Hamilton,” Kim says. “We both work full time, and have children, and we just know she’s well taken care of. And they’re going to let us know if she needs anything. We just really appreciate it.”
