We have a new opportunity for UK medical students interested in developing their interpersonal skills when faced with difficult patient decisions through the Family Nurturing Center! The program, “Support Over Silence,” helps to develop skills needed to sit with patients in their time of need. Students complete a 3 hr course that is guided by social workers and counselors to build an understanding of how to manage and guide the experience of human suffering. The goal of this program is to improve our own skills while gaining insight into how to be more present for our patients. It is being held on October 24th at Albright from 2-5 pm, and dinner will be provided.

Meet Armin! Armin is a M4 from Louisville, KY. A fun fact about him is that he likes to cycle, read, and listen to music in his free time!🎶🚴📚 He said “my favorite part of CCRU is being able to simultaneously help the vulnerable populations in our community while also providing early clinical experience to our volunteer medical students. It gives me great joy to see students learning through direct patient care, and to hear how they have made a positive impact on a patient’s health and well-being!”

Meet Lilli! Lilli is a M3 from Somerset, KY. A fun fact about her is that she’s been skydiving before! When asked what her favorite part about CCRU is, she said “the CCRU clinic was one reason I chose to apply to this campus, so I wanted to be apart of it in any way I could. I love the clinical exposure we get early on from working here, but more importantly I love getting to know those that we help. Everyone we see has such a unique story, so I love taking the time with each patient to listen to whatever they have to say!”

Meet Holly! Holly is a M4 from Maysville, KY. A fun fact about her is that from the time she was 6 until the end of college, she had a fundraiser every year to buy stuffed animals and donate them to her local hospital for sick children getting blood drawn or IVs placed.

She said “I joined CCRU because I loved being able to help out the community. I think as future physicians we have a lot of knowledge and to share that with the community is a beautiful thing. We also get to be a part of some unique conversations and situations that otherwise we wouldn’t see until way further in our careers.”

Meet Natalie! Natalie is a M4 from Versailles, KY. A fun fact about her is that she loves to bake sourdough bread on the weekends (let her know if you want some! 🍞)

Her favorite part about CCRU is “I love CCRU’s mission to expand healthcare access- it is why I went to medical school. I especially love getting to work with like-minded community partners to better understand how we can implement health programs in low resource settings.”
