Can I have a visitation period and a funeral service if cremation is chosen?
Absolutely! Cremation does not mean you cannot have a visitation period and a funeral service. Cremation is simply one option for final disposition of the body.

“The pleasure of remembering had been taken from me, because there was no longer anyone to remember with. It felt like losing your co-rememberer meant losing the memory itself, as if the things we'd done were less real and important than they had been hours before.”
― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

What is a funeral?
A funeral is any ceremony that offers an opportunity for family members and friends of the deceased to express love, respect, honor and grief for a loved one. Whether you choose traditional burial, cremation or green burial, a funeral offers the bereaved a place to celebrate life and take the first step towards healing.

I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.

If you’re trying to support a family member or friend, figuring out the right things to say or do can seem daunting. Luckily, you’ve already taken the first step towards helping them, simply through the act of caring. But sometimes, you might wish to do a little more to show support.
Here are three waves that may help with the waves of grief:
Donate in a loved one's name

Here’s the truth: selecting a final resting place in advance makes a difficult time become solely about celebrating life and honoring who you are. The alternative is often confusion, disagreement and guesswork. So, it’s smart to make these choices now. That way they’re not made on your behalf, at an emotional moment.
The benefits to your family will be real and appreciated, ranging from spiritual choices to financial assistance. From selecting an ideal permanent memorial, to designing the service, to paying in advance, you can make the day exactly as you imagine it. And your loved ones will know they’re fulfilling your wishes. Which is exactly how they should feel. https://www.batemanpacificview.com/our-services/burials

As a way to celebrate a life, you can create a grief jar.
Using a container of your choice, add memories to strips of paper and add them to the container. You can have friends and family members also add to the jar with their memories. This creates a way to remember and celebrate the life of your loved one.

Pre-planning is determining the details of your funeral and cemetery services in advance.
To some, this may sound like a difficult conversation. But putting a plan in place is actually a smart and caring thing to do. With a plan, you’ll reduce stress for grieving loved ones—and simply let them honor and celebrate your life, knowing things are happening just as you wanted. All your wishes. All with ease.
If you would like to secure your veteran benefits, you can schedule an appointment either over the phone or in person at Bateman Funeral Home.

Bateman Funeral Home was founded in 1914 by the Bateman family who owned and operated it until brothers Gene and Dene Bateman semi-retired in 1999. In 2010, two Oregon native Funeral Directors, both having homes on the Oregon coast and long time friends of the Bateman family, purchased the businesses from the out of state operators. Bateman is now a private company owned by local Oregon families. Their staff resides in both the Newport and Lincoln City areas, and are available to assist 24 hours a day.
Co-owner and managing partner of Bateman Funeral Home, Brian Norris is a licensed funeral director and celebrant who resides in Newport with his family. Brian is involved in the community as a member Yaquina Toastmasters Club, a member of the American Legion and the Lincoln County Historical Society. He is involved with the City of Newport Parks and Recreation Committee, is on the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and is a member of the board of directors for the Oregon Funeral Directors Association. Brian's business partner, David Schroeder is also a licensed funeral director and a long-time Oregon Coast native, born and raised in Tillamook County.
Bateman Funeral Home is family owned and operated. Located in Newport, Oregon Bateman has a chapel and reception areas, and operate the only two certified "on-site" cremation centers in Lincoln County. While other funeral homes are required to transport to a third party crematory operator and have little control over when the cremation takes place or when the ashes are returned to you, Bateman Funeral Home can assure no out of town transport costs and your loved one does not leave their care. With certified crematory operators, Bateman assures the highest possible standards right here in the Lincoln County community.
Bateman Funeral Home offers a wide variety of services including burial, cremation and pre-arrangement services. Custom designed personalized funeral and memorial services are Bateman Funeral Homes’ speciality. The funeral home believes that a memorial or funeral service should be a time to pay tribute and celebrate one's life at the same time. Each person has lived their own life individually and each person's funeral or memorial service can and should reflect that. When properly and appropriately designed, a personalized funeral or memorial service is a very meaningful and powerful experience.
Brian and Dave continue the Bateman family legacy of giving back to the community as a 53-year member of the Newport Chamber of Commerce as well as a lifetime Booster for Newport High School. Starting in 2015, Bateman Funeral Home has awarded seven scholarships to local seniors in Lincoln County to pursue higher education as well as participated in many other sponsorships, fundraisers and charities in the community.
