North Country Hospital Emergency Department Expansion Begins
For the next six months, the NCH Emergency Department will be undergoing an expanded renovation, but it will be worth the wait! Our capital project will give much-needed patient care space to the current footprint, and the way this can be accomplished is to convert our ambulance bay into four additional patient rooms serving the department. These rooms will also have the capability of converting to negative pressure, which means when opened, potentially contaminated air or other dangerous particles from inside the room will not flow outside into non-contaminated areas.
Currently, during high-volume times, we are forced to house emergency room patients in the department’s hallway due to a lack of appropriate services in other parts of the community and state. The renovation will move the ambulance entrance to the side of the building, where heated pavement in inclement weather will allow direct and safe access into the department for direct patient care.
During this time, there may be longer wait times in the Emergency Department and patients may have to be seen based on acuity rather than arrival time. It is also important to be aware of your surroundings as you travel through our campus, as some areas may be blocked by construction equipment. Please proceed with caution when traveling on Medical Village Drive or in the parking lot directly in front of the emergency room entrance.
We anticipate the renovation to be completed by April 2024.
