The big orange U.S. Coast Guard helicopter is a familiar and reassuring sight on the Oregon Coast, bringing comfort to many of us, especially those involved in commercial and sport fisheries and recreation. 🚁 🛥️ 🌊 🐟

Recently, Emergency Services staff at both of Samaritan's coastal hospitals received training on how to safely offload and load a patient into a USCG helicopter, which keeps its engine and rotors running throughout the process.

Some of our wonderful volunteers at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital prefer a behind-the-scenes, quiet and creative approach to their volunteerism, which perfectly describes our Pillows and Plush/Toy team!

More than a dozen people donate their time and talent to create huggable, comforting, smile-making works of heart. Volunteers, friends/family of volunteers, employees and community members carefully craft “Hug Me” pillows, prayer shawls, hats, scarves, toys and specially designed hospice bears. Each act of kindness counts - giving an extra smile for pediatric patients, a layer of warmth to someone facing the cold, something soft to hug after surgery.

When you see a patient looking great in their knit stocking hat or a sweet newborn baby wrapped in a beautiful Christmas stocking, we hope your heart smiles knowing that there are beautiful, caring people in our community and beyond who are making something simply from a graceful heart.

The photos show:
- Laurie Ferris, SPCH Auxiliary President, with piles of pillows.
- Marla Fields modeling a prayer shawl donation.
- Liz Young, SPCH Auxiliary Gift Shop co-manager, with plush toys.

👉 Pam Warren, clinic operations manager at Samaritan Walk-in Clinic in Newport, rarely interacts directly with patients – yet her work makes a huge impact on the delivery of timely and compassionate patient care. This is why she was selected as the Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital clinic-based Rising Star for October. Good work, Pam! ❤️

👉 Tammi Beck, CNA, realized that an outpatient receiving an infusion of medicine was having an allergic reaction. Thanks to her sharp observation and fast action, the patient received quick care to mitigate the reaction. For this and countless other reasons, Beck was named SPCH Rising Star for October. Congrats, Tammi! ❤️

When a local credit union believes every child deserves a bright start, amazing things happen.

Our friends at TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union, are helping children learn, grow and play through their Communities First program, supporting both the North Lincoln Hospital Foundation and the Pacific Communities Health District Foundation.

🎠 At North Lincoln, their support is helping expand the Samaritan Early Learning Center, starting with the playground, so kids have a fresh, fun place to play and explore.

📚 At Pacific Communities, TLC’s gift helps give books to kids under 5 during clinical well-child visits through Reach Out and Read. It’s a simple way to help families connect and build a love for reading.

From story time to play time, TLC is partnering with Samaritan Foundations to help Lincoln County kids grow up happy and healthy. 💛
