The hotline families can call to begin the application process for FEMA COVID-19 Funeral Assistance opened today. As a result, FEMA is experiencing a high volume of calls and individuals may encounter a busy signal or longer-than-normal wait times. If families call you concerned about not being able to speak to a FEMA representative, please remind them there is no deadline to apply for funeral assistance. FEMA asks for patience as they want to give each caller the care and attention they deserve.

The holidays can be very difficult for those who have lost a family member. For this reason, we offer our Holiday Memorial Service as a means of comfort to those who are facing the holidays for the first time after the death of a loved one.

This years service will be held tomorrow night, December 10, 2019 at 7:00pm at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home.

The service is open to any who would like to attend.

If you would like to attend the service, a memorial keepsake inscribed with your loved one’s name will be given to you as our gift.

We would like to thank Rev. Sarah Nelson from St. James Episcopal Church, Rev. Ruby Bean from Wilmington Church of the Brethren and Rev Ruthann Simpson from Peniel United Methodist Church for the wonderful holiday service they officiated last week. It was a beautiful night of remembrance.

A few photos from the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony we attended this morning in Newport, Delaware across the street from the funeral home. The beautiful service was to honor not only those who lost their life at Pearl Harbor, but all of our veterans.

Today on the anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember those who lost their lives and the heroic people who risked their lives to save others.

Today on National Puppy Day we remember our blind Labrador "Puppy", Shadow who passed away in October. Many might remember seeing Shadow around the funeral home when she was recovering from her various surgeries and aliments. We miss her everyday, especially her famous hugs.

The rest of the album are the current crew of Jim Gilmore's elderly Labradors, Rose, Emily, Opie and Kasey and the Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home Grief Therapy dog, Lisa.

Today on National Funeral Director Day, we want to recognize our funeral director and owner, Jim Gilmore, for being the caring, empathetic and selfless funeral director he is as he helps the families we serve through the worst time of their lives. There are truly not enough words to describe Jim and how much we appreciate him!

We would like to thank Rev. Sarah Nelson from St. James Episcopal Church in Newport and Rev. Ruthann Simpson from Peniel United Methodist Church in Newport for the beautiful service at our 24th Annual Holiday Memorial last night.

We hope the memorial service helped comfort the families that attended who are facing the holidays for the first time after their loss.

We also would like to thank Charlene Workman and “new staff member” Lisa, her therapy dog for attending. Lisa brought comfort and smiles at the service during this difficult holiday time for many.
