Take a look at the results of our first-ever Veterans Choice Awards! We asked our staff to show their appreciation for our veterans across two categories, and our veterans on staff voted to select the winners.

Congratulations to Rosie (Patient Access) who won the Art category. Her single crochet stitch item took around 20 hours to make! She shared, "I have and always will be thankful for every person that gives their time and lives to our military. From my grandfather, father, brother, uncles, cousins and friends, I am very thankful!"

Anita (Case Management) won the Food category for her heartwarming display. It featured a care package addressed to her brother, Richard, alongside a letter she wrote to him in 1970, and a family photo.

Thank you to all of our competitors, and a massive thank you to our veterans!

Join a team that values service and dedication! If you're a veteran or someone who shares these core values, we want to hear from you. Apply today at https://tinyurl.com/lovemynewjob.

⚪ Board member Rich Stinnett who read the address in Mr. Heinze's absence
🔵 Robert Guest, Post Commander of Wayne G Austin Newton American Legion #2, for his encouraging words

It is an honor to celebrate you!

The History of Newton Medical Center

More than a century ago, Dr. John T. and Lucena Axtell founded Newton’s first hospital, Axtell Hospital. For four decades, the Axtells served the community until they passed on the hospital to the Kansas Christian Missionary Society. At that time, the name was changed to Axtell Christian Hospital, a Christian Church/Disciples of Christ organization. At the turn of the century, Reverend David Goerz and Sister Frieda Kaufman founded Bethel Deaconess Hospital as a mission of the Mennonite Church. Mennonite deaconesses remained involved with the hospital’s operations until 1983. On Jan. 1, 1988, the two hospitals merged to become Newton Medical Center.
