Dorothy Gail Bandy, aged 68, passed away on December 8, 2025. Born on June 22, 1957, Dorothy was a cherished resident of Claremont, North Carolina.
Dorothy was married for 30 years and 8 months to Marty Jerome Bandy. She was preceded in death by her parents, William James Carroll and Margaret Evettie Grant Carroll; her daughter, Billie Jo Spurlin; her great-grandson, Silas Irvin Hatcher; her brother, Roger Carroll, and her sister, Patricia Boyd.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Christy Flewelling and husband Fred, Kimberly Henry and husband Ramey, Deanna Braswell and husband Dion Connor, and Kesha Krieble and husband Michael. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, William James Carroll III and wife Marsha, and her sister, Pamela Beane and husband James. She was a beloved grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was an active member of her community and attended Calvary's Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
A visitation will be held at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, NC, on December 12, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm at the same location. Burial will follow at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont, NC.

Wayne Eugene Beal, a beloved resident of Newton, North Carolina, passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on August 14, 1940, Wayne lived a life marked by dedication to his family and his career.

Wayne graduated from Granite Falls High School in Granite Falls, NC. He furthered his education by studying short courses in furniture at CVCC in Hickory, NC, which laid the foundation for his long and successful career in the furniture and foam industry. Wayne retired after approximately 50 years of dedicated service in this field.

Wayne will be remembered for his dedication, both to his family and his work, and for the love he shared with those around him. He loved the Lord, enjoyed watching sports, especially Duke Basketball, and eating Alice's home cooking.

He was married for 48 years to Alice Angel Owens Beal, with whom he shared a loving family. Wayne is survived by his son, Dane Beal, and wife Lisa of Belmont, NC; daughter, Gina Kincaid, and husband Greg of Hudson, NC; and grandchildren, Kirby Mentz and husband Emil, Ethan Beal and wife Katherine, Kameron Kincaid, and Corey Kincaid. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Eden Shirley Mentz and eagerly anticipated the arrival of another great-grandchild. Additionally, Wayne is survived by his step-son, Randall N Evans, and wife Alison C of Concord, NC, and step-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Kinsey, and Tyler Evans. His sister, Doris Herman, and husband Tony also survive him.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Harry Beal and Florence Beal, and his brother, Jerry Beal.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home, located at 56 NW Blvd, Newton, NC 28658, on December 10, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Dr. Paul Gilliam officiating.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church in Newton NC or to the charity of your choice.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Breverly Joyce Summers Johnson (affectionately known as BJ), passed away on November 29TH 2025 at the age of 77. While words cannot fully express the sadness we feel at this loss, we honor the life, love, and legacy of someone who touched the lives of so many.
Breverly was known for her “Hey baby girl, how you doin’ ”, her infectious laughter, and ability to strike a dance move on command. Born with a generous heart and a kind spirit, her life was a testament to compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished. Throughout her years, Breverly brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone, fortunate enough to be in her presence.
Breverly graduated from Unity High School, Class of 1966. She was very proud of having worked for the Catawba County Sherriff’s Office from 1983 to 2003 when she retired. She later came out of retirement to work at Peoples Bank as the receptionist. She was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader, Statesville District Lay Council Secretary, Shiloh AME Zion Senior Usher Board President, member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, Order of the Eastern Star Hickory Chapter, member of the WPCOG, Hickory City NAACP Secretary, and Friends of the Library volunteer. She will be remembered for her dedication to family (don’t mess with her grandkids), steadfast friendships, and the many contributions she made to the community. Her wisdom and guidance were a constant source of comfort, and her memory will continue to inspire all whose lives were brightened by sheer presence.
Preceded in death by her beloved mother, Margaree Summers Crosby; Breverly leaves behind a son, Larry Johnson (wife, Sharisse) of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Stephanie Johnson Craig (husband, Will) of Hickory, NC, grandsons Tyler Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Joshua Johnson and wife, Brittani, of Perry, GA, Alex Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Ethan Johnson of Hickory, NC; granddaughters, Ella Johnson of Hickory, NC, Isabella Hinds of Charlotte, NC, and Gabrielle Johnson of Charlotte, NC, and a host of friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life and legacy on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11 am at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. A receiving of friends and family will be held at 10 am prior to the service.
John 16:16 says “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.”. May her soul rest in heavenly peace.

Doris Lackey Roof, 92, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at her residence.
Doris was born September 12, 1933, in Cleveland County, to the late James M. Lackey and Lillian G. Harmon Lackey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Lester O. Roof, Jr. and a sister Joann Lackey Collins.
Doris graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1954 and was a middle school teacher in several school systems in North Carolina including, Lee County, Newton-Conover City Schools, Rowan, and Lincoln Counties. She was a member of the inaugural faculty of Newton-Conover Middle School. She also served as a past state president of the NC Women of ELCA and a past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of Southern Seminary. She was very involved in the churches of which her husband was pastor.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Carol Eanes and husband Tom of Hampstead and Becky Gladden and husband Jon of Vale; sister, Juanita Lutz, of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Drew and Matt Eanes of Hampstead, Sarah Grove (Tyler) of Hickory, Caroline Bost (Joe) of Indian Land, SC, and Meredith Gladden of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Henry Bost, and Emory and Oliver Grove.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Faith Lutheran Church, Conover, with the Rev. Rachael Theisen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
A family interment was held earlier at St. Luke Cemetery in Kings Mountain. Serving as pallbearers were Drew Eanes, Matt Eanes, Joe Bost, Tyler Grove, Robert Lutz, and Thad Lutz.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 439 7th St. Pl. SW, Conover, NC 28613 or St. Luke Cemetery Fund, c/o Fred Kiser, 2049 County Line Rd. Kings Mountain, NC 28086.
