Doris Lackey Roof, 92, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at her residence.
Doris was born September 12, 1933, in Cleveland County, to the late James M. Lackey and Lillian G. Harmon Lackey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Lester O. Roof, Jr. and a sister Joann Lackey Collins.
Doris graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1954 and was a middle school teacher in several school systems in North Carolina including, Lee County, Newton-Conover City Schools, Rowan, and Lincoln Counties. She was a member of the inaugural faculty of Newton-Conover Middle School. She also served as a past state president of the NC Women of ELCA and a past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of Southern Seminary. She was very involved in the churches of which her husband was pastor.
Doris is survived by two daughters, Carol Eanes and husband Tom of Hampstead and Becky Gladden and husband Jon of Vale; sister, Juanita Lutz, of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Drew and Matt Eanes of Hampstead, Sarah Grove (Tyler) of Hickory, Caroline Bost (Joe) of Indian Land, SC, and Meredith Gladden of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Henry Bost, and Emory and Oliver Grove.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Faith Lutheran Church, Conover, with the Rev. Rachael Theisen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
A family interment was held earlier at St. Luke Cemetery in Kings Mountain. Serving as pallbearers were Drew Eanes, Matt Eanes, Joe Bost, Tyler Grove, Robert Lutz, and Thad Lutz.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 439 7th St. Pl. SW, Conover, NC 28613 or St. Luke Cemetery Fund, c/o Fred Kiser, 2049 County Line Rd. Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

William “Paul” Pearson, age 85, of Cajah’s Mountain, NC passed away peacefully in Newton, NC on Monday, November 3, 2025, following a brief illness.
Born October 21, 1940, in Wilkes County, he was the son of the late James Odous Pearson and Mary Abigail Haas and was of the Baptist faith. Paul attended Hudson High School and retired from Kincaid Furniture. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter and trout fisherman. He never brought home many deer, but he truly loved being in the woods and was known to read a Louis Lamour book under a tree while waiting for the perfect buck.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Arnett Pearson; son, Gary Wayne Pearson; brother Glen; and sisters, Charlotte, Irene and Margaret.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Becky Duggan and husband, Danny; grandchildren, Michael Pearson, Hannah McLendon, Caleb Pearson, Chelsea Pearson, Vanessa Wertz; 6 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine companions, Dolly and Bonnie.
The family extends their gratitude to the nurses and caregivers who tenderly cared for Paul.
Per Paul’s request, no services will be held, but in his memory, take a long walk in the woods.

Betty Jo Borucki was born August 19, 1949 to the late Bill and Imogene Brooks. She was called to her heavenly home on October 29, 2025. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Rich” Borucki, her sister Terry Sanford, her daughter Tammy L Flow, and her granddaughter, Tamara A Flow.

She left behind a big family to cherish and honor her memory, which includes her daughter, Pamela Riley of Portsmouth, VA. Her son, James “Richie” Flow Jr and wife Joanna Flow of Joplin, MO, her stepsons, Carl Borucki of Gardner, NY, Richard Borucki Jr of Phillipsburg, NJ, her stepdaughter, Danielle Borucki Blum & Jarrod Blum of Margate FL, her sisters, Mary Varney of Wythville, VA, Patricia Turner of Newton, NC, Diane Flow of Monroe, NC, Billie Wilkinson of Newton, NC, Sylvia Young of Newton, NC, and her brother Shane Brooks of Charlotte, NC.

Betty was blessed with fourteen Grandkids, Four Step-grandchildren and twenty-two Great Grandchildren. There are multiple nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

As a member of Tri-City Baptist Church, Betty was a devoted Christian, whose favorite saying was “God’s got me.” She wanted to thank Judy Smith for her love and guidance with her walk in faith.

To everyone who knew Betty, knew she could sometimes be ornery and stubborn, but she was so full of Love and unending Strength. With her undeniable faith, and against all odds, she and God defeated Lung Cancer. This faith willed her through her daily life until He called her home. Before that moment arrived, Betty made sure that everyone knew just how much she loved them. She told us not to worry, that she was going Home with Jesus. We love you Mom, Sister and Friend.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday November 8 @ 2:00pm at the home of Hal Turner and Patricia Turner, 604 N Gaither Ave Newton, NC 28658. If you’d be willing please bring a dish to this for time of Fellowship.

A Celebration of life will be on Sunday, Novemeber 9 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home, 56 Northwest Blvd, Newton, NC 28658. Rev. Hampton Drum will officate and burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 pm prior to the service.

In leiu of flowers, memorial can be sent to Mercy Health Foundation, Oncology Dept, 100 Mercy Lane, Joplin, Mo, because she loved the Doctors that took care of her.

Shannen Denise Johnson Jordan, 59, was born on October 23, 1966, to the late Ronald Harry Watterson and Helen Sue Frost Johnson. She was raised by the late Robert Lee & Helen Sue Johnson. She passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Shannen was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana. She attended Purdue University and went on to work in hospitality at the university. For many years she managed Pappy’s Sweetshop in the student union, where she touched the lives of countless students, faculty and staff. In 2017 she moved to North Carolina. She worked for Compass Group, Canteen in Hickory, NC. She attended Discovery Church in Newton, NC.
Shannen enjoyed good music, good food and spending time with her friends and family. Some of her favorite things were; going to concerts, tending to her beautiful plants and garden, attending any kind of festival and spending time with nature, especially in the mountains. In Newton, NC, Shannen founded the afterschool “Good News Club” at Newton elementary for students to teach them about Jesus. She truly enjoyed sharing God’s love, especially with the children in her community.
Shannen is survived by her beloved son, Jackson Jordan; brother, Phillip Watterson (Wife, Leisa); stepbrother, David Brittingham (wife, Nancy); stepsisters, Susan McKendry (husband, Dan) and Becky Kelley (husband, Jim); 1 niece, 6 nephews, 2 great nieces and a number of extended family and many friends.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on November 22, 2025 from Noon to 5:00 PM at the Uptowners Club 3012 Barton Beach Road Lafayette, IN 47903. Please join her family and friends in sharing memories and commemorating Shannen’s beautiful spirit.
