Glider swing with Squigz!
This activity is a fun way to target fine motor skills, postural control/neck strength, projected action sequences, and ocular motor skills.
Here are four challenges:
The first challenge focuses on postural control and visual perception. The glider swing is fairly unstable so itโs important to keep you body in the middle and stay in the center while reaching to avoid tipping.
The second challenge adds in projected action sequence and bilateral motor coordination to propel swing.
The third challenge adds an ocular motor component as the target with the squigz is moving.
The final challenge puts all of the demands together as the child needs to propel the swing, visually track the squigz, and retrieve them.
An additional challenge could be to put the squigz higher on the bolster to increase postural control demands!
The first part of the video shows a person laying prone on a glider swing that is still and reaching forward to grab squigz off of a suspended bolster with something behind it to keep it still. The second part shows the person using the swing ropes to propel the swing forward and back while grabbing squigz off the stationary bolster. The third part shows the person grabbing the squigz off of the bolster which is spinning and moving while the swing is still. The final part shows the person swinging back and forth while the bolster is also gently moving and spinning.
