Seventy-one years ago, Prairie View opened its doors to serve its very first patients—with just 15 staff members. But let’s be clear: while 15 individuals were on payroll, they were never alone. Behind them stood an army—a selfless, passionate, determined army of volunteers.

Farmers left their fields. Teachers paused their lessons. Mechanics set down their tools. Across the tri-county area, ordinary people from every walk of life rallied around a vision they believed in deeply. They weren’t forced or coerced. They showed up—because they knew what we were building was bigger than any one of us.

Prairie View wouldn’t be here today without those who gave their hands, their time, their stories, their hearts.

You can’t just “stop thinking,” but you can learn to pause the compulsive loop and guide your thoughts toward solutions, self-care, or present-moment awareness.

This shift can reduce stress, improve sleep, and free up mental space for what truly matters.

Your journey matters, and you never walk it alone.

Happy Earth Day!

Today we celebrate the healing power of nature not just for our planet, but for our minds and hearts too. From a quiet walk outdoors to planting something new, even small moments in nature can support mental well-being.

Let’s care for the earth and each other.

Transforming lives

At Prairie View, we welcome people who are struggling with mental illness and addictions. They are individuals, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, couples and families. They come searching for answers, for help, for a caring and compassionate person to hear their story, for transformation. We support our clients on the life-changing road to recovery and treat each person with dignity and respect.

Prairie View is located in Newton, Hillsboro, McPherson, east Wichita and west Wichita, Kansas.
