In the past, many stones were made from materials like sandstone, limestone, or marble, beautiful, but soft and prone to weathering. Time, shifting ground, and limited foundations meant some didn’t hold up the way families hoped.

Today, the industry has changed. Granite is now the most common material, chosen for its durability and ability to hold detailed engraving. Most new memorials are also set on solid concrete foundations, which help prevent leaning or sinking.
