Today is World Mental Health Day, and we want you to know that your mental health matters. Not just today, but every single day.

Take a few seconds with us to breathe and remember how much you have gone through to get to this place. Reflect on how you are feeling and what you need to do right now to take care of yourself.

The difficult moments are not the whole story. They are just part of it.

Always remember: You are needed. You are valued. You are loved. đź’™

Mending Point is always looking for opportunities to take the extra step in child welfare and serving Kentucky's families. đź’™

This week, we attended Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky's Kids Are Worth It Conference. Our team attended workshops, earned various credentials, and got to meet some amazing people who work hard for Kentucky's children and families.

Oh yeah, and we got to meet the governor, Andy Beshear. What a wonderful week!

At Mending Point, we see a lot of young people like Maya who see their "normal" as one marked with trauma. We strive to change that "normal" and help them see their true potential as an individual of worth, no matter what has happened to them.

Read more about Maya here: https://www.kyumh.org/inspiring-stories/meet-maya

Thanks to your support, Maya* has found her “new normal.” 💙

She grew up surrounded by the pain of substance abuse, instability, and fear. By age 11, Maya was in foster care, carrying the weight of anxiety and depression. She believed that trauma was her “normal.”

But then, Maya met Mending Point. Through compassionate counseling, dedicated case management, and a safe, nurturing environment, she began to heal. Slowly, she found her voice and with that—hope.

This year, Maya graduated high school, something she once thought wasn't possible. And now, she’s enrolled in college, chasing her dream of becoming a computer scientist. 🎓

✨ Maya’s “new normal” is now filled with possibility. And it’s because of you.

Your support helps rewrite stories like Maya’s every day. But there are still so many youth in Kentucky waiting for their chance to heal, grow, and believe in a brighter future.

Together, we can give more youth a new beginning.

You don't have to walk through life's challenges alone.

If you are interested in our services, we invite you to fill out this referral form: https://www.kyumh.org/programs/mending-point-referral

Mending Point Behavioral Health is our community-based services located in Central Kentucky, serving adolescents ages 12-21.

Our purpose is to give youth the tools to thrive to overcome life's trials. Our clinical therapists meet them where they are at and make sure that no one faces their healing journey alone.

Take Chelsea* for example, a young woman who thought high school graduation was out of the picture for her because of life circumstances. "The key for Chelsea was a consistent, trustworthy adult that showed up for her," says her Mending Point therapist, "She had never known a kind adult who wasn't looking for something from her."

Whether they’re facing substance use, mental health challenges, or overwhelming life stress, we walk alongside them with compassion and trauma-informed care that helps them begin again.

We are here to help you! If you are interested in Mending Point services, fill out this referral form: https://www.kyumh.org/programs/mending-point-referral

Who knew a cheesecake can mean so much?

When Chelsea* faced a new chapter in her life, there was no room for her education.

She didn’t think high school graduation was possible, because she was too busy with her full-time job and taking care of her family. As a result, her education was left on the back burner.

“I didn’t have a positive relationship with anyone in my family," says Chelsea, "and I struggled with my self-esteem.”

Without support, Chelsea would have fallen behind her peers.

With the help of our compassionate staff and her hard work, Chelsea graduated from high school, something she didn’t think was possible, and is now attending college.

As a celebration, our staff treated to her choice of restaurant. Chelsea decided on The Cheesecake Factory.

Chelsea couldn't believe somebody cared enough to celebrate her achievement with her. "I still think about that cheesecake every day!" she says.

That cheesecake meant so much to Chelsea, showing her that you can do anything you set your mind to.

Your donation makes high school graduation possible for our youth.

Myth: "Bad" feelings are meant to be suppressed.
Fact: All feelings are valid, and deserve to be shared.
Bottling up your feelings does more harm than good a majority of the time. Talk to someone you trust, whether that be a family member, friend, or therapist. Even just talking through something can make all the difference for your mental health.

Mental Health Awareness does not stop at the month of May. Every day is a day to prioritize your mental health and remind yourself that you matter.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🌿 We want to remind you that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. There are many ways to prioritize your mental health, but if you do not know where to start, here are a few tips:

-Implement "sleep hygiene" - sleep is very important. The quality and length of sleep significantly impacts brain health.
-Start a practice of mindfulness - just like you go to the gym for your physical health, create a practice, such as meditation, for your mental health.
-Develop a routine - build healthy habits into your daily life
-Challenge negative self-talk - reframe negative thoughts into positive thinking
-Meet with a clinical mental health counselor - At Mending Point, we have trained professionals that are ready to support youth and families in Kentucky with overcoming personal challenges and accomplishing their goals.

These small steps can lead to big change. Take that step today!
