Last week, during National Long-Term Care Administrators Week, we recognized Howard Alter of Citadel of Saint Benedict and his perspective on leadership in skilled nursing.

"Skilled nursing takes passion and strong advocacy. It’s about engaging your team to make people better, being present, caring, and setting the example. This isn’t just a job, it’s a mission."

On what he finds most rewarding, Howard shared, "Seeing people improve, watching their progress, and supporting them as they return home after their recovery."

He also offered advice that continues to guide his work: "Have patience and take the time to listen. When you really listen, you build trust, strengthen your team, and create better outcomes for everyone."
