✨Honoring Leaders Who Inspire: Anita Godfrey✨
During Black History Month, we’re honored to highlight leaders who help families find their rhythm every single day — including Anita Godfrey, whose decades-long impact in foster care continues to inspire us.
Anita’s journey began more than 30 years ago with what she describes as an “eye-opening” look into the trauma many children face. Guided by mentors who showed her what strong, compassionate leadership can look like, she built her career on making youth feel seen, supported, and valued.
As a Black woman in child welfare, Anita has faced challenges, assumptions, and the weight of representation. Yet she continues to show up with strength and authenticity. “I always want my staff to feel safe, heard, and supported,” she shared — and that same care extends to the youth she serves.
She reminds young people, especially youth of color, that their story doesn’t end with foster care: “This is just one chapter in your book of life. Whatever you want to do or become, you can… because look at me.”
Her leadership is a powerful reminder that representation matters — not just in boardrooms and conferences, but in the lives of the kids who look to us for hope.
This month and every month, we celebrate the voices shaping brighter futures and stronger families.

Support from partners like Ticket to Dream Foundation makes it possible for Cadence Care Network to go beyond baseline services and meet the real, lived needs of youth in foster care.

As we honor Black History Month, we’re especially grateful for initiatives like their Black Futures Campaign, which allow us to provide culturally responsive items that are often overlooked but deeply impactful—especially for Black youth navigating systems that were not designed with them in mind.

From hair-care and skin-care essentials to representation-centered books and items, these resources help us tailor support to each child—reinforcing identity, belonging, confidence, and overall wellbeing in ways traditional funding simply can’t.

We appreciate partners who help us care for kids as whole people. 💛🖤
