applied_counseling Counseling services that include working with children, adolescents and adults that are struggling with mental health concerns.

Sessions are self-pay and by appointment only. Call, email or message for more details. I enjoy my role, as a counselor, in providing a safe and compassionate place for individuals to feel seen and heard. I enjoy working with individuals that are aware that they need to do something different but aren't sure what the next step is. This could be parents concerned about their child's behavior, needs at school, adolescents and adults going through life transitions, mental health concerns or just needing a safe space to talk and process life. I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults with a variety of mental health needs and also have over 10+ years of experience in the public education system. Some of my specializations include working with children, adolescents and adults that are struggling with: depression, anxiety, ADHD, school issues, relational issues, grief and loss, adjustment to change, life transitions and other mental health concerns.

This is goodbye....but definitely NOT the end!

Over the last 3 years the Ozark office has been a space where people AND I have navigated change…
Turns out maybe I should’ve scheduled myself an appointment 🥲

Moving offices is exciting…until you realize you’re emotionally attached to:
• the chair that squeaks
• the spot on the wall you swear is “decor” not damage
• and the actual room where so many brave conversations started

Saying goodbye to this space is harder than I expected. A lot of life happened here—big breakthroughs, hard days, and more than a few “aha” moments (and probably some awkward first sessions too 😅).

But growth usually means packing up, feeling all the feelings, and moving forward anyway.

New space, same heart for what I do 💛
(And yes… I will absolutely need help figuring out where everything goes again.)

NEW office opens this Monday, March 30th, in Nixa, MO!

Signs are still being created and there will be some setting up in progress....but Applied Counseling will be in a new spot!

Ever hear this one?

“They’re perfect at school… but fall apart at home.”

If that’s your child, you’re not alone—and it doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.

❤️ Home is their safe place.

School takes a lot of effort:

▪️Following rules
▪️Managing emotions
▪️Holding it all together

By the time they get home, their tank is empty… and the feelings they’ve been holding in finally come out.

😡 It can look like defiance, meltdowns, or big reactions—but often, it’s just a child who feels safe enough to let it all go.

A few things that can help:

✨ Build in decompression time after school
✨ Keep routines predictable
✨ Focus on connection before correction
✨ Remember: behavior is communication

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Applied Counseling is here to help families make sense of the restraint collapse aka: “after school meltdown."

‼️Big news… Applied Counseling LLC is moving! 🚚✨

✔️Same heart.
✔️Same mission.
✔️New space.

Over the past few years, my office has held a lot of important moments—hard conversations, big breakthroughs, quiet wins, and everything in between.

I am so grateful for every person who’s walked through my doors and trusted me with their story.

And now, I am stepping into a new space that will allow me to keep growing, serving, and showing up for you even better.

Change can feel like a lot (I get it… we talk about that all the time 😉), but it can also be a really good thing.

📍 New location details coming soon
🗓️ I will continue sessions without interruption

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I can’t wait to welcome you into the new space.

These last few days have been beautiful!

Sunshine is underrated therapy ☀️

It won’t solve everything—but stepping outside for even a few minutes can help more than you think.

Fresh air. A little movement. A break from the noise in your head.

Sometimes healing starts with opening the door and going outside.

This week, try it:

🌿 Sit in the sun for 5 minutes
🌿 Take a short walk (try it phone free!)
🌿 Notice 3 things you can see, hear, and feel

Small steps still count.

Your mind and body will thank you.

Spring Break: where routines disappear, snacks multiply, and kids suddenly have a lot of feelings with nowhere to go 😅

If your house is feeling a little louder (or a lot messier), here are some simple, therapy-inspired ways to help kids process all that extra energy and emotion:

🌿 “Rose, Thorn, Bud” check-in

Have each kid share:

🌹 Rose (something good today)
🌵 Thorn (something tough)
🌱 Bud (something they’re looking forward to)

🎨 Feelings Art Time

No rules—just draw or color what today felt like. (Bonus: you learn a lot without asking 100 questions.)

🚶‍♂️ Walk & Talk

Kids open up more side-by-side than face-to-face. Take a walk and let the conversation come naturally.

🎲 Play = Processing

Board games, pretend play, even building Legos—play is how kids work through their world.

Spring break doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Anxiety: “Everything is urgent.”

Depression: “Nothing matters.”

You: stares at life like Jim looks at the camera

Some days our mental health really does feel like an episode of The Office:

Awkward
Chaotic
Both too much and not enough at the same time.

The good news? 👏👏

🚫You don’t have to “Michael Scott” (fake it to make it) your way through it alone.

Counseling can help:

✔️Sort the chaos

✔️Manage the overwhelming

✔️Find real strategies that actually work

(no fire drill required)🤪

👏👏👏
This has always been one of my favorite quotes!

In a world that can feel loud, divided, and overwhelming, kindness is still one of the most powerful tools we have. It doesn’t require a lot—just a willingness to pause, notice, and respond with care.

Small acts matter.

A gentle word.
A patient response.
A moment of understanding instead of judgment.

And when the world feels heavy, look for the helpers:

❤️The teachers staying late.
❤️The neighbor checking in.
❤️The stranger holding the door.
❤️The friend sending the “just thinking of you” text.

👀 Noticing reminds us that goodness is still active and present.

Kindness is contagious. When we look for helpers, we often become one. 🙂
