💙🕯️ Honoring Loved Ones: Suburban Hospice Circle of Light Memorial Service 🕯️💙

Last week, Suburban Hospice held our annual Circle of Light Memorial Service, a deeply meaningful event where we gathered to honor the lives of the patients we were privileged to care for this past year.

Families joined us for an evening of reflection, comfort, and connection. Our chaplains and hospice team offered emotional and spiritual support, sharing heartfelt words and providing helpful materials for those navigating grief.

One of the most beautiful moments of the night was the incredible choir whose music brought warmth and peace to the room. We closed the service with a candlelight ceremony—each flame symbolizing love, remembrance, and the light that continues to shine through cherished memories.

To every family who joined us: thank you for allowing us to walk beside you.
Your loved ones will always be remembered. 💙

🧼✨ It’s Handwashing Awareness Week! ✨🧼
At Suburban Hospice, we know that the simplest actions can make the biggest difference—especially when it comes to protecting the health of our patients and their families.

Clean hands are one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent illness and keep vulnerable loved ones safe. This week, we’re reminding everyone to slow down, take 20 seconds, and make handwashing a regular habit.

Here’s how you can help keep your home safer:
💧 Wash hands before and after caregiving tasks
🤲 Scrub for at least 20 seconds (sing a quick song!)
🚰 Use soap and warm water whenever possible
🧴 Keep sanitizer nearby for when you’re on the go
🛡 Encourage visitors to wash their hands too

In hospice care, every act of protection is an act of love. 💙
Thank you for doing your part to keep our patients safe and supported.

💜 Hospice Appreciation Month: What Does a Hospice Aide Do? 💜

As we continue celebrating Hospice Appreciation Month, Suburban Hospice is shining a light on another essential part of our care team — our dedicated Hospice Aides (CNAs).

Our aides are the helping hands and caring hearts who bring comfort, dignity, and compassion to patients every single day.

Here’s how our Hospice Aides make a difference:
🌼 Provide personal care — assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and daily comfort needs.
💜 Offer companionship and reassurance — bringing warmth, kindness, and a gentle presence to every visit.
🏠 Promote comfort and dignity — ensuring patients feel cared for, respected, and at peace in their own homes.
🤝 Support the care team — communicating changes and helping ensure each patient’s needs are met promptly and compassionately.

Our Hospice Aides are often the familiar faces patients see most — and their quiet acts of care bring peace not only to patients, but to families as well.

Join us this month as we continue honoring the incredible team members who make hospice care such a gift of love and compassion. 💜

💜 Keeping Alzheimer’s Patients Safe — At Home & In Care Facilities 💜

At Suburban Hospice, we know that caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s comes with unique challenges — especially when it comes to safety. Whether your loved one is at home or in a long-term care facility, simple precautions can make a meaningful difference in their comfort, confidence, and well-being.

Here are some important safety measures to consider:

🏡 If Your Loved One Is at Home:
• Keep pathways clear to reduce tripping hazards.
• Secure doors and windows to help prevent wandering.
• Label rooms and doors to make navigation easier.
• Lock up household cleaners, medications, and sharp items.
• Use nightlights to reduce confusion during the evening hours.

🏥 If Your Loved One Is in a Facility:
• Make sure staff are aware of any recent behavior changes.
• Ask about fall prevention measures, including non-slip socks or mats.
• Ensure personal items are labeled and easy to recognize.
• Verify the facility’s wander-prevention protocols.
• Encourage gentle routines that help reduce anxiety and confusion.

💜 No matter where care takes place, creating a safe, calming, and structured environment is essential. At Suburban Hospice, we work closely with families and caregivers to help ensure comfort, dignity, and peace for those living with Alzheimer’s — along with emotional support for those who love them.

If you need guidance or support, we’re here to help. 💜

💜 Hospice Appreciation Month: What Does a Hospice RN Do? 💜

November is Hospice Appreciation Month, and at Suburban Hospice, we’re taking time to share what each member of our care team does to support patients and families.

Today, we’re shining a light on our incredible Hospice Registered Nurses (RNs) — the compassionate hearts who guide patients and loved ones through each step of their hospice journey.

Here’s what our Hospice RNs do every day:
🌼 Provide expert medical care — managing pain, symptoms, and medications to ensure comfort and dignity.
💬 Offer compassionate support — listening, encouraging, and being a steady, comforting presence for patients and families.
🤝 Coordinate care — partnering with physicians, social workers, chaplains, and caregivers to meet every need.
🏠 Educate and empower families — teaching loved ones what to expect and how to provide care at home.

Our nurses are more than caregivers — they’re advocates, educators, and companions. Their kindness and expertise help bring peace to patients and families every single day.

Join us this month as we highlight the many roles that make hospice care so meaningful. 💜

Right Time, Right Team, Right Care

For nearly 30 years, our Suburban Hospice team (formerly Hancock Regional Hospice) has provided compassionate and expert care for hospice patients and families in Greenfield, IN and surrounding areas. When curative treatment is no longer an option, hospice provides patients and families with the multifaceted support they need to make the most of their time together. Our expert RNs, HHAs, social workers, and chaplains care for the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs of patients and families throughout the last weeks and months of life.

Earlier this year, our hospice was recognized by Strategic Healthcare Programs as a “Premier Performer,” achieving a survey score from families we served in 2018 that puts our program in the top 5% of hospices in the nation. “Our families’ responses resulted in our program being…the only hospice in Indiana to achieve that rating. We worked hard this year to be sure our families were receiving the right amount of emotional and spiritual support and also as much training in how to care for their loved ones as they wanted. We talked more about the side effects of medication and about what to do when our patient seemed uncomfortable and how to recognize that. Those efforts clearly meant something to our families because the scores in those areas were even better than the year before”, said Jeannie Crowe, Executive Director of the hospice program. “This award helps us know that the care we provide to our patients and our families makes this very difficult time just a little bit easier and that means everything to us!”

On October 1, 2019, we officially became Suburban Hospice and have expanded our service area to include Riverview Health in Noblesville and Witham Health Services in Lebanon. We look forward to continuing our great tradition of compassionate, expert, and personalized care throughout Central Indiana.

If you have questions about whether hospice care is right for your family, please call us at (833) 888-7222. We would be glad to explain care criteria and explore care options with you.
