Susan Hintz’s journey at Riverview Health began after a serious fall left her with a fractured vertebra, requiring complex fusion surgery at a different hospital. From the moment she arrived, Susan felt a profound sense of care.
“The team consists of a group of caring, collaborative people who are technically very competent and extremely passionate. That combination is amazing,” said Susan. “Each day I’ve been here, I’ve gotten stronger and better. The staff was willing to do whatever it took so that I would learn what I needed to do and have the support I needed to do it.”
Today, we proudly celebrated Dr. Samuel Heiser’s remarkable career at Riverview Health with a hospital-wide clap out as he completed his final surgery. 👏
Dr. Heiser’s dedication and service have made an incredible and enduring impact on our organization and community. Please join us in showing our appreciation for Dr. Heiser and wishing him the best of luck in retirement. 💙

Out of respect for this patient’s military service, their name has been omitted from this testimonial to maintain confidentiality.
At Riverview Health, we are honored to care for patients like this veteran, who came to us through the emergency department after experiencing complications at another hospital. At the time, they were heavily medicated and disoriented, even recalling moments of confusion when they believed they were back in uniform. After being stabilized, they were transferred to The Mindrebo Family Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Riverview Health where their experience quickly turned around.
“It didn’t feel like a hospital stay; it felt like a little vacation. I felt safe, cared for, and respected. I’m taking Riverview Health’s information to the VA so I can recommend this hospital to other veterans who need help. You’ve done a fantastic job.”
We are grateful for this patient’s trust, their service, and their heartfelt words. Caring for them was our honor—and a reminder of why we do what we do.

On May 10, 1909, Hamilton County’s first hospital opened for business. Dr. Samuel Harrell, the son of a Shelby County farmer, chose the city of Noblesville, Indiana, to build a hospital in which he and his brother, Dr. Madison Harrell, could practice medicine. The three-story Harrell Hospital and Sanatorium was located on Ninth Street one-half block north of downtown Noblesville.
In 1914, Harrell Hospital and Sanatorium was sold to Hamilton County and renamed Hamilton County Hospital. In 1944, to meet the health needs of a growing population, hospital trustees purchased land west of Noblesville from Mr. Charles Swain. The pioneer statesmen had lived on this site, reportedly named Federal Hill.
Construction of a new hospital began in 1949. On May 12, 1951, the new hospital opened. Shortly thereafter, in 1952, the hospital was renamed Riverview Hospital as an homage to its location along the banks of the White River.
Throughout the years, Riverview Hospital continued to expand, with additions and improvements made to the main hospital campus, plus the addition of a wide range of specialties, technologies and services. In April 2014, Riverview Hospital was officially renamed Riverview Health.
Riverview Health is now comprised of a full-service, 156-bed hospital in Noblesville and a hospital in Westfield with 16 beds. Also included are 23 primary, immediate and specialty-care facilities in Hamilton County.
Within the Riverview Health system, more than 350 physicians—many of who are board-certified or fellowship-trained—provide healthcare services in 35 medical specialties. Their expertise, coupled with exceptional specialists and nursing staff, is one of the many reasons we’re frequently recognized for clinical and service excellence.
Our goal is to provide compassionate, patient-centered care to everyone in our community. We continually promote a progressive, nurturing environment—and support our community through educational seminars, screenings and other events aimed at helping you and your family stay well.
