We've all heard it... The phrase "Babies aren't wired to sleep through the night." This is true for newborns, however it is NOT true for children 6 months and older. All children CAN learn to put themselves to sleep at bedtime and put themselves back to sleep during the night. Putting yourself to sleep is actually a learned skill! It can come easier to some babies versus others of course. We all have partial arousals during the night where we as adults may simply roll over and not remember it, while our children typically cry out for us. They simply need the tools, space and opportunity to learn to put themselves back to sleep during the night, as well as bedtime. If mom or dad is always coming to help them go back to sleep they truly won't have to opportunity to learn. In these instances night wakings will continue because the child will genuinely need the parent's assistance as they don't know how to do it on their own. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you are in this situation!
