🚧 Pardon Our Dust 🚧

Beginning April 27 through July 31, construction will take place in our main lobby vestibule as we work to enhance our space for patients, visitors, and staff.

During this time, you may notice increased traffic in the main lobby, along with some congestion and possible delays at check-in for outpatient appointments. We recommend arriving a little earlier than usual to allow extra time.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these important improvements to better serve everyone who walks through our doors at Sentara Leigh Hospital.

We’re proud to celebrate an incredible achievement by one of our own 👏

Dr. Wilford Gibson, orthopaedic surgeon with Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists at Sentara Leigh Hospital, has been named the 94th president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

With more than a decade of leadership within AAOS, including roles as chair of the Board of Councilors and the Advocacy Council, Dr. Gibson has long been a champion for patients and the orthopaedic profession. He was also recognized as the 2022 AAOS Congressional Ambassador of the Year.

Dr. Gibson’s commitment to service began early in his career. After completing his surgical internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, he served aboard the USS Nassau, supporting deployments in the Caribbean and Mediterranean and earning multiple honors for his work.

“It is a privilege to serve as president of the AAOS,” Dr. Gibson said. “AAOS is strongest when we work together to engage our members, serve our profession, and advocate for our patients.”

Congratulations, Dr. Gibson, on this well-deserved honor and your continued leadership in advancing musculoskeletal care!

As Black Maternal Health Week comes to a close, the conversation — and the work — must continue.

Melonie Suber, a certified nurse midwife at our Family Maternity Suite in Norfolk, highlights the ongoing gaps in care that continue to put Black mothers and babies at risk. Raising awareness is just one step toward improving outcomes and ensuring every family receives the care they deserve.

This week, we had an egg-cellent time celebrating our incredible team with our annual Easter Egg Hunt! 🐣🌷

From hidden surprises to lots of laughter, it was a joy seeing our staff come together, take a well-deserved break, and enjoy some festive fun. 🐰

LAB SERVICES TEMPORARILY CLOSED: We’re reaching out to our patients and community to share an important update regarding outpatient lab services at Sentara Leigh Hospital.

Due to a water-related incident affecting our outpatient central laboratory testing area, this area will be temporarily closed through at least Thursday, 3/26.

During this time, patients who need lab services are welcome to visit the Sentara Brock Cancer Center or another Sentara lab location.

Our teams are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete repairs and minimize any impact to your care and schedules. Thank you for choosing Sentara as your trusted partner in health.
