Meet Haben Girma—the first Deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School and a global advocate for disability rights and accessibility. Haben’s work challenges barriers in education, technology, and employment, reminding us that disability is not a limitation—inaccessibility is.

At Eggleston, we’re inspired by leaders like Haben who prove that when environments are inclusive, talent can thrive.

Last week, members of Eggleston’s Ingleside Day Services program braved the cold to give back, volunteering at the Latter-day Saint Church to create mats from recycled bags in support of our neighbors experiencing homelessness. 💙

Big year for Eggleston’s Business Fulfillment Team! Our crew of 35 employees supports companies across Hampton Roads with assembly, packaging, testing, labeling, and more — all while creating meaningful, inclusive jobs. 📦💼

This year we:
🔁 Cleaned, refurbished, and repaired 161,682 Cox remotes
🔌 Sorted and rewrapped 1,026,000 cables
🔧 Expanded our work with Ryson International — growing from 3 to 7 builders and now producing 70–75 conveyor chains a week shipped across the U.S., Holland, and Thailand

Access Virginia is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was created to provide open captioning and audio description at live theatrical performances so that Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Blind, Visually Impaired persons can attend performances and experience the wonder of live entertainment at public facilities. Access Virginia will work to expand accommodation services to other public venues.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Zakiya Hoyett 🌟

Zakiya officially joined the Eggleston team in January 2023, but her connection to the organization goes back even further through years of supporting our fundraisers. She found her way into this work by stepping outside her comfort zone — discovering that her background and skills could make a real impact beyond academia.

Outside of work, Zakiya enjoys a good mix of getting out and staying in. You might catch her at a movie, concert, or game — or just as easily curled up on the couch with a book and her phone nearby. 📚🎶

Fun fact: she’s a proud Bama girl (Roll Tide!) and a diehard Lakers fan. 🏀🐘

We’re glad she took that leap and brought her talents to Eggleston. 💚

Another incredible year for Eggleston’s Vehicle Donation Program! 850 donated vehicles brought in a total value of $1,305,008 — powering jobs, training, and programs for adults with disabilities. 🚗💙

At the Eggleston Automotive Center, our team works hard to repair and detail every donated car so our monthly auctions stay strong and keep delivering real impact for our mission. 🔧✨

🌿💚 A huge year for the Eggleston Garden Center!
We served 8,950 customers, sold over 38,000 plants, and more than $9,500 in fresh produce. 🪴🫛

This year we added new statuary, applied for a grant to build a year-round hoop house, and started planning monthly botanical workshops for kids. Plus, our indoor Farmers Market keeps growing with new local goodies like empanadas, raw milk, and specialty meats. 🍯🥟
