Living disconnected from your body might have become your norm. But it doesn't have to stay that way.

Trauma often pushes us to live in our heads. This is a survival mechanism that serves an important purpose... for a while.

Eventually, though, you'll want to take back the reins and gently reconnect with your body so you can:

• Feel at home and safer in it again.
• Decode the signals your nervous system sends.
• Respond to stress instead of react to it.

But you can't just "understand" how the process works.
You need a safe space where you can PRACTICE it.

That's what we're doing in Coming Home To Your Body.

This intimate, 6-week experience will help you reconnect gently and compassionately in ways that reading about it simply doesn't.

Because healing your relationship with your body doesn’t happen through pressure. It happens through safe experiences, supportive relationships, choices, and gentle curiosity.

We invite you to join us for one of the most impactful experiences you can have this year.

We start April 13th at 6pm Central and meet weekly on Mondays via Zoom. This group is intentionally small to promote safety and connection.

For many women, disconnecting from the body was a brilliant way to survive trauma.
Many trauma survivors learn to live primarily in their heads.

Your mind keeps working.
You function.
You get through the day.

But your body might feel:

Disconnected
Shut down
Constantly tense
Overwhelmed by sensation
Difficult to trust

But over time, many people begin to notice the cost.

You may feel detached from your emotions.
Grounding yourself may feel difficult.
Your body’s signals may feel confusing or overwhelming.

Coming Home to Your Body is a supportive, trauma-informed group designed to help women gently rebuild a relationship with their bodies.

Not through pressure.
Not through forcing change.

But through curiosity, safety, and choice.

This group offers a space to slowly reconnect with your body, at your own pace.

Somewhere along the way, many adults quietly stop playing.

Not because play stops being valuable, but because life becomes full of responsibilities, expectations, and routines that leave little room for imagination.

Productivity often replaces curiosity. Efficiency replaces exploration.
Yet play has always been one of the most powerful ways humans learn about themselves.

Self-care is often misunderstood as a luxury, but it is actually a vital practice for maintaining your capacity to navigate the world. When you feel depleted, it is a signal from your nervous system that it’s time to find small, safe ways to replenish your energy.

Refilling your cup can look like gentle movement, finding a moment for fresh air, or simply taking a breath. By honoring your needs through creative expression or journaling, you give yourself the grace to stay grounded. Remember that tending to your own well-being is a necessary part of the healing process.

Navigating family dynamics can be deeply taxing when those closest to you don't provide the safety you need. Remember that reclaiming your narrative is a process, and you have the right to prioritize your mental health above "tradition" or "obligation". Whether you are practicing selective sharing or becoming a "grey rock" to protect your peace, your boundaries are valid.

Tools for Protecting Your Peace:

Selective Sharing: You don’t owe anyone every detail of your life; keep certain topics private to protect your inner peace.

Internal Boundaries: Changing your expectations of others can help reduce the cycle of disappointment.

The "Grey Rock" Method: If you must interact with toxic individuals, give short, non-committal answers to avoid fueling drama.

Chosen Family: Seek out friends and community members who offer the safety and unconditional positive regard you deserve.

When you notice a sudden shift in your energy—perhaps a tightening in your chest or a flurry of racing thoughts—your body is communicating a need for safety. Moving toward self-safety isn't about forcing yourself to feel better; it's about honoring your nervous system's current experience with grace and curiosity.

By following these five gentle steps, you can begin to bridge the gap between distress and regulation:

1) Notice the Shift: Acknowledge the change without judgment.
2) Check Your Breath: Observe your rhythm and allow it to soften.
3) Ground Your Body: Feel the support of the earth or the chair beneath you.
4) Name the Moment: Identify your current feeling to gain a sense of agency.
5) Honor the Need: Ask yourself what would feel most supportive right now.

You deserve a path to healing that respects your unique pace and survival strategies. If you’re looking for a compassionate space to navigate these shifts, we are here to support you at https://thementalwellnesscenter.com
